interesting. I’ve always sort of suspected NINJA might have been inconsistent night to night based on their mood as a band. The show I saw in Camden was incredible. Eric and Dave were mouthing the lyrics the entire time and it was one of those nights where everything - the band, audience, overall atmosphere - just seemed to fall in place perfectly. Have always been really grateful that I got my little slice of OG Jane’s that night. I hope more of that is in the cards for next year.Hokahey wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:30 pmI did. And weirdly, it was perhaps my least favorite Jane's show. That felt like Eric was just...there. Accompanying a very shitty version of the band.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 9:03 pmDid you not get to see NINJA?Hokahey wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 8:36 pmUp the Beach with Eric's bass was some bucket list level shit.esqfool wrote: ↑Tue Nov 01, 2022 7:32 pmReally solid set. A few songs where Troy ain't got the horsepower at all (Stop and BCS) , but the first few songs were on point so I can't dog him too hard. And yes I'm probably overly critical about most things. Up The Beach restored to its rightful opening slot. Excited for Monday in Denver. Crazy to see this band playing with some real fire once again.
Also I'm fucking more bummed now that Philly got nixed. I was so close.
This felt like Eric was a part of it. Or not just part of it, but really driving it all forward WITH the band. And that they were tapping in to some of that old magic. I just hope if/when Dave does re-join that he's just as committed to recapturing the spirit as the rest of them. Because Troy isn't perfect, and he fucked up a few times, but you can see the guy that played with QOTA and APC, two bands that were also able to capture a similar dark magic at times.
I'm just glad that nearing 30 years as a Jane's fan I got see a performance of Up the Beach tonight that I'll never forget and will forever be special. I'd have never guessed that's what I would be up to in 2022. And that I would still be getting something out of this band that was special. Really, really fun night.
Really sorry your show got canceled. Hopefully this is just an appetizer to something even greater.

Final note - my son said Perry looks like Woody from Toy Story now and now I can't unsee it.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Janes insta uploaded really cool pictures from the St. Louis show. I never would’ve thought 10 years ago when they stopped supporting TGEA and transitioned to legacy touring it would ever be this cool again
It’s also insane to see Perry and Eric at a hockey game after everything that has transpired- it’s awesome
I hope Perkins keeps his acrylic drum set when Dave comes back

The drum set is dope.
This tour has been so much more than I hoped!

Apparently Janes played Trip Away last night instead of Ain't no Right. Which is a great substitution in my book.
Funny how they rejoin the tour, play Kettle Whistle, come to St. Louis and play the same old set, then the next night play Trip Away. They must remember I live here.
That said, I'm so happy they didn't cut out Up the Beach here. One of my all time favorite concert memories already.

They gotta be planning shows focused on deep cuts… what a time to be a fan
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
So I've always thought they should drop Ain't No Right but then it smoked live. I'd kill to hear Trip Away though. Kettle Whistle I heard on Jubilee tour or whatever 2001 was called. Up The Beach intro was perfect though.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I'll never be certain this band will do anything we'd all want them to, but I definitely have more hope than ever. Would be wild if they did a mid to large sized club tour with a lot of deep cuts as the original lineup, and released a new EP/LP to sprinkle in.someguy wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 8:27 amI will pay top dollar to watch the original lineup play trip away kettle whistle etcHokahey wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 5:56 amApparently Janes played Trip Away last night instead of Ain't no Right. I'd kill to hear Chip Away again as the closer. Then She Did needs added. I don't care about Ted. I'd love to know why they've never bothered attempting So What.

And just about never bothered with 'Slow Divers'. Which is criminal.
Agreed on the earlier point about not trusting these goons to do the right or good thing. They'll give you a crumb and then mug you ten times over before the next hint of one.
That said, like just about everyone else here - having written then off, I am amazed by the footage that's been surfacing. Some life in the old dog yet.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
looks like a lot of people who missed 1.0* finally are learning the facts of the matter...it's not the same fucking band/monster without EA
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
And Mountain Song.
And like 15 other songs.
I think they should only play Three Days and Then She Did. And not even them.
I don't like Jane's Addiction anymore.
.... seriously though, I think I'd rather they just find ways to play these songs where Perry doesn't either sound like screeching grandpa Bono or some weird lounge act version of himself.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Well you got screwed, so I don't blame you. But hopefully you'll get to see this incarnation and I think you'll be pretty blown away.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Any Trip Away vids? Can't seem to find any.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
And yeah, I've been waiting for ain't no right, been caught and mountain to be dropped from sets forever lol. Ain't gonna happen. but at least with Eric back we no longer have to suffer with Just Because anymore.

Hey, I like Strays and TGEA. I would love to hear one or two tracks (in a longer set, sure).
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Would be interesting to know if this has already been mentioned and what Eric would think.parklife03 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 03, 2022 7:49 pmHey, I like Strays and TGEA. I would love to hear one or two tracks (in a longer set, sure).
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Why would they want to draw attention to the two weakest albums and why would Eric play someone else’s basslines in a band he co-founded?
Surely it’s more likely they’d introduce new songs co-written by Eric.

I would pay 10x ticket price to watch Perry sing at Eric that his is a Foreskin as opposed to the Real Head on stage.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
what's struck me going through this thread is just how many people never saw 1.0. But, it's really cool to read how many peeps are digging this.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Yep, way too young to have seen 1.0. I'm 41 nowadays, but have listened to probably thousands of hours of bootlegs of theirs. This is easily the best they've sounded in all the times I've seen em, and that's without Dave to boot. Now you've got me wondering how many time I have actually seen them. I think around 10 times. The intro was a nice touch, the tribal drums building and building, to Up The Beach. Things felt right. The energy level was much higher than Smashing Pumpkins.
