“Whores” in 2023
Re: “Whores” in 2023
Completely forget- how did we get the word to migrate over here when Sonny pulled the plug on Xiola?

I typed up a whole "history of the online Jane's scene as I remember it" essay back around the Troy tour but pussied out posting it here.

Re: “Whores” in 2023
This was my guess but I wasn't sure. Makes complete sense though, especially given the influx of ANR accounts with join dates of August 2011. How the fuck has it been almost 12 years?!
Re: “Whores” in 2023
I remember Mike made some announcement that he was shutting our thread down because we were supposedly shit-talking JA.org. I don't think evidence of that ever surfaced, but he I remember he started banning us one by one right after.
Wow, 12 years? A ton of life and events have occurred in this collective during that time

Re: “Whores” in 2023
I don’t think I had any awareness of that happening over there. I’m shocked that thread lasted long enough for anyone to see it. But of course not surprised by Mikes behavior.thoreau wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 9:04 pmI remember Mike made some announcement that he was shutting our thread down because we were supposedly shit-talking JA.org. And yeah, my life has changed dramatically during that time.

What happened to the guy with handle Paintsdri,or something like that?. Think he lived in the country/farm type thing . He sent me a bunch of burned CDs once just to be cool
Re: “Whores” in 2023
I think I'm still friends with him on Facebook. I certainly thought that was a troll account for years though.

I had an account on there, but never ever posted, and they banned me.LifeIsLoud wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 3:40 pmjanesaddiction.org board.
Literally banned with a post count of 0
I kind of respect it honestly. I would have banned me back then, too.
Re: “Whores” in 2023
I feel like we talked about it on xiola, honestly.
sonny pulling the plug was fast, but I think there were signs it was coming. Didn't he yank down all the Eric Avery interviews first? I feel like things on the site disappeared and someone was like "where do we go if he shuts the board down too?" and then by the time he shut it all down, we were already ready and knew where to go.
Am I remembering this wrong?
Re: “Whores” in 2023
From what I remember I tried to go on the site one day and it was down with a note from Sonny. I was shocked and didn’t see it coming. That would make sense though because I also remember there wasn’t much of a waiting period if at allSix7Six7 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 11:24 amI feel like we talked about it on xiola, honestly.

I remember the same thing about the site going down suddenly and the note from Sonny. I was really surprised as well, though the signs were there as Six7 said.someguy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2023 12:40 pmFrom what I remember I tried to go on the site one day and it was down with a note from Sonny. Patti used to sing it every night. Since 2017 she’s played it once, in 2019.Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 8:32 amAs an aside, Patti Smith’s “Rock N Roll Nigger” was quietly removed from streaming platforms last year, without explanation.
John Lennon had a song about women being the N-word of the world. I wonder if he’d still sing it.
I actually logged in today for the first time in a few weeks specifically to ask this question. So reading the thread has been illuminating but not surprising. Hohakey has nailed it in his posts in my view so I have little to add. Whomever said ‘but black people use it’ is a racist. Whomever cited other offensive words that aren’t quite as taboo as this one is ignorant. This isn’t a debate about woke-ness, no matter how much MAGA people want yo make everything just that. In our culture white people have enjoyed an historical advantage socially and economically. No? The US has all sorts of historical blood on its hands but slavery is the worst. No? This word is painful for any person of color to hear. It’s well earned its place at the top of the list of offensive words. So white peiple, it seems to me, can give this one up. Arguing otherwise always seems like someone who really wants to call the black guy who cuts him off on the highway a N-word.
On the other hand there’s art. Artists can make their own choices with their art. And I think Perry and Patti have.
One question I’d pose is what are peoples opinions on Quentin Tarantino? Dude seems almost obsessed with giving himself lines in his films where he says that word. I’m not sure why.

A thought provoking piece from a simpler time (or more intelligent time). Only 11 years ago …
