lollapalooza 17
Music is just passing me up I guess because every year the lineup seems worse and worse. There isn't one band that I have heard of that I want to see.

The cloud nothings
Ya creep they aren't really going after your demographic because your demographic doesn't stay in toich

It's an automatic sellout every year so they don't need to throw money at the big headliners I guess. Are the Killers still popular?kv wrote:The cloud nothings

What does Liam Gallagher do? Does he do mostly Oasis songs?

Re: lollapalooza 17
i also had no clue the killers were still a band.
i love run the jewels, like lorde and charli xcx, but thats about it. def wouldnt pay festival money.
i may go to the panorama festival here in july to see nine inch nails and tribe called quest. but the idea of festivals reallllly dont appeal to me, especially in july when its gonna be 100 degrees. plus its on randalls island, which is so annoying to get to and they dont let you park there so youd either have to take a taxi or take a bus from harlem. still debating whether its even worth it since ive seen nin so many times before and its gonna be a major hassle.

There are quite a few artists on here I'd like to see, but spread out over 4 days? NAH.
I went to 6 of the first 8 in Chicago, but the last 2 I went to were the 20th anniversary and the 25th anniversary. Unless someone amazing crawls out of the woodwork in the next 3 years, I probably won't go again till the 30th anniversary.

I love Chance. I never saw Muse, but I'd like to. I will never go to another festival again, unless it's at a small venue (up to 20k) and outside, but it would have to be very attractive. I am so old that I have been really content with the old fucks playing really small venues.

Re: lollapalooza 17
IMO, Muse is the best traditional rock band currently playing arenas and stadiums the past 8 or so years. I've seen hem play the LA Forum the past 3 tours and even though they're not one of my favorite bands, I've really enjoyed the live show. I wouldn't bother seeing them as part of a big festival but on their own, they always have a great production and are consistantly solid musicians.SR wrote:I love Chance. They HAVE thrown big money at Muse and Arcade fire otherwise they'd be nowhere in sight. Muse probably cost about the same as RHCP last year I'm guessingcreep wrote:It's an automatic sellout every year so they don't need to throw money at the big headliners I guess. Re: lollapalooza 17
Yeah, I wouldn't say it's just that music is passing you up, but that the lineup is shit. I didn't know Muse was still trying to happen.
There are so many bands, it feels like they're just throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks. The reasons behind tickets selling out isn't that one specific, narrow demographic is being pleased by the organisers. It's almost lower common denominator stuff at this point. "Wanna go see Muse?" "Meeh... alright. Got nothing better to do, let's go take some selfies."

Re: lollapalooza 17
Yeah, Muse are great, and people like them.
The Killers have a pretty big new song out right now, too, I think...
But yeah, that line-up is relatively weak. Not as weak as Lolla 2003, though.

The lineup with Jane's, Audioslave, A Perfect Circle, and QOTSA all on the same stage?Hype wrote:Yeah, Muse are great, and people like them.

You're crazy.

And those QOTSA shows were legit as fuck. Last great tour they did for their last great album.Six7Six7 wrote:The lineup with Jane's, Audioslave, A Perfect Circle, and QOTSA all on the same stage?Hype wrote:Yeah, Muse are great, and people like them.

Re: lollapalooza 17
I wasn't a fan of that era. I liked earlier QOTSA. Didn't enjoy APC. Audioslave... meh.
Also, it was a joke.

Re: lollapalooza 17
They were practically giving tickets away for that one because it wasnt selling. I think ultimately a bunch of dates were even cancelled.Hype wrote:I wasn't a fan of that era. I liked earlier QOTSA. Didn't enjoy APC. Audioslave... meh.

97' Lolla was a strange one and a sign of the times. Orbital, Devo, The Orb, The Prodigy, Tricky, Snoop, Korn, and Tool.

I went Friday night. I go about every other year and it's a lot of fun. I give the organizers a lot of credit, I got to the Pasadena Civic about 10 minutes before the doors opened at 6pm and the line was probably about 3,000+ people and wrapped around the block but it only took about 10-15 minutes to get in. A freak watchers paradise, lot's of goth chicks, lot's of weirdos dressed as various horror movie characters, many in super elaborate costumes.

I hate when companies do this. I've seen shit like Used-Car-Palooza. There was this local shitty music promoter in Ohio that rented out a local fairground stage and had Rockapalooza with a bunch of shit bands like Puddle of Mudd.
I just don't get it. I would never go to something that just randomly threw "palooza" on the event name.
Re: lollapalooza 17
I notice the band names are no longer put in different sizes or subtexts. Kind of speaks to the fact that there aren't any monster bands. I mean there are, but lolla probably isn't the place to see them. I hate festivals anymore. Last one I went to was here, in Osaka. Hot as fuck. Blisters on my feet. $6 water. Dust in my lungs. Not one good viewpoint. I'm done with it.

Pretty soon Perry might have to rename it Lollapaloozapalooza
