oooh wow, I'd love to see this!Artemis wrote:Won a pair of tickets for the opening of the Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now's the Time exhibition at the art gallery.
Jean-Michel Basquiat took the New York City art world by storm in the early 1980s and gained international recognition by creating powerful and expressive works that confronted issues of racism, identity and social tension. Although his career was cut short by his untimely death at age 27, his groundbreaking drawings and paintings continue to challenge perceptions, provoke vital dialogues and empower us to think critically about the world around us. Jean-Michel Basquiat: Now's the Time marks the first major retrospective of the artist's work in Canada and will feature close to 85 large-scale paintings and drawings from private collections and public museums across Europe and North America.
Guest-curated by renowned Austrian art historian, curator and critic Dieter Buchhart, the AGO's exhibition will be the first thematic examination of the artist's work. Inspired as much by high art — Abstract Expressionism and Conceptualism — as by jazz, sports, comics, remix culture and graffiti, Basquiat translated the world around him into a provocative visual language.
Next time your in NY I can take you to his apt where he died

I am thinking about going to NY at the end of March or early April. Bjork is doing about 4 or 5 shows there. It's showing sold out now but tickets may become available.
So yeah, if I make it over there, I will let you know so we can make a plan to meet up.Following the news of her forthcoming album Vulnicura, Björk announces some intimate shows this spring at Carnegie Hall on March 7 and 14 and at City Center March 25 and 28 and April 1 and 4. The series of shows culminates with a performance at the Governors Ball music festival in New York this June.

Found out this morning that a fellow ex-xioler/onepercenter was visiting my city with a band called The Sirens. I'm friends with him on fb so I commented on a picture he posted. He was nice enough to ask me if I wanted to see the show. So I said that I'd love to. Just came back and I have to say that he's an amazing drummer. We've got so many talented musicians here. I'm very proud of you guys

Fucking cool man, didn't get the chance to meet him. But it was very sweet of him to put me on the guest list.

Nah, I had to leave early and he wrote me that people got kicked out as soon as the show ended. Plus, they were leaving soon to Chile. Maybe next time he's back.

Do I know this fellow drummer? Would I want to meet him? Or more importantly, would he want to meet me?perkana wrote:Nah, I had to leave early and he wrote me that people got kicked out as soon as the show ended. Plus, they were leaving soon to Chile. Maybe next time he's back.

2) yeah - he's a touring muso who you "know"... cooolll.
3) Everyone wants to meet you mate, you're the only person we know that has a donkey!
I can't remember his ANR handle though....
Re: What made your day today?
I don't understand... I did a quick search and they're playing here the 3rd and 4th of February and tickets have been on sale for a while. However, it says that the band is composed by just 3 women. But you say he's a man. Is he a touring drummer of sorts?
Re: What made your day today?
well they have a band. those girls sure can rock and dance
Re: What made your day today?
Yup, that's Jochem aka jvr2000 on here (second from left, when they're all taking a bow). For pretty intense music, those women were really cheerful about it! Seriously, I didn't know about them but I wanted to keep them
P.S. Especially the redhead, I was smitten with her.

I don't know if you know him. As nausea has said, we've "known" him for quite some time through here. He's Jochem on fb.Larry B. wrote:Do I know this fellow drummer? Would I want to meet him? Oh yeah, jvr2000 definitely rings a bell. Cool gig he's got going on there. I wouldn't mind playing with three women every other night...
