Jessica Chastain was offered the lead but hasn't accepted/been confirmed. Thoughts?

I approve as well. I think she's great.

I was talking about Michael Shannon before. They make such a great team that it changed the name of the movie thread.

Her reps say she's not doing it. :wavesad:

On the bright side, she'll be in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey:

That trailer for Interstellar looks cool. It seems long, like it gives away too much story. Seeing that it's Nolan I'm sure that doesn't matter since there will be twists.

i bet it takes place in the central valley or the desert. like louisiana those places could "capture a certain psychosphere ambiance" like louisiana.
More details have emerged about the cast and setting of “True Detective” season two, which will have three new leads, according to creator Nic Pizzolatto.

In a recent interview with public radio program “To the Best of Our Knowledge,” Pizzolatto revealed that in the new season’s current form, “we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.”

He added, “The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.”

The show’s anthology format means that season two will be entirely self-contained and distinct from its freshman year, with no plans for season one stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson to return — something that differentiates the series from FX’s “American Horror Story,” which recycles actors from past seasons in new roles.

Pizzolatto previously told HitFix that “True Detective” season two would be about “hard women, bad men and the secret occult history of the United States transportation system.”

Last week, rumors circulated that “Zero Dark Thirty” star Jessica Chastain was offered a role in season two, but the actress denied the buzz on the red carpet at Cannes. “It’s an awkward thing because when all that attention happens — it takes away from whoever plays the role,” she said. “I’m a big fan of the series. I’m going to watch the second season just like I watched every episode of the first.”

Finished watched the Blu-ray collecting the 1st season last night. Overall, I was a bit let down by the ending, in that it seemed like it was shoehorned into the last episode as if maybe there was some last minute decision to crunch the season down to 8 eps versus maybe 10. Still, greatly enjoyed the show, moreso because it was full of great dialog and compelling lead characters than the somewhat mundane (by now) occult murder conspiracy.

Dear creep, all HBO shows that take place in Louisiana and begin with the word "True" aren't the same.

Another rumor...
Report: True Detective Season 2 Eyeing Colin Farrell, Taylor Kitsch

By Michael Slezak / July 11 2014, 12:15 PM PDT

Whether or not time is a flat circle, the casting process for Season 2 of HBO’s True Detective is accelerating.

Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are reportedly in serious discussions for two of the season’s lead roles, according to respective stories by our sister site Deadline and The Wrap.

At the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday, HBO president Michael Lombardo said a Season 2 casting announcement was imminent, and added, “[T]he two scripts we have are…more exciting than the first season.”

Series creator Nic Pizzolatto, meanwhile, told The Daily Beast this week that the new season will be set in California and feature “four central roles.”

The anthology format of True Detective — each season will reboot with new settings and characters — has allowed the network to reach out to big names who might not otherwise want to commit to multiple seasons of a series.

Season 1 of True Detective, which took place in Louisiana with a narrative that fluctuated between the mid-’90s and the present, earned Emmy nominations yesterday for Best Drama and Lead Actor in a Drama for stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, neither of whom will return for Season 2.

Last I heard there were something like 3-4 leads. So if that's true, then one or more of them might be female (doesn't matter to me either way, because diversity quotas have no place in a writer's vision). The things Pizzolatto said earlier about creating a character seemed to point to a central male protagonist.

I don't know anything at all about Taylor Kitsch, so I have no opinion on him. I like Colin Farrell, though I haven't seen that many of his movies. He's very good in In Bruges, and he was good in his small part in Crazy Heart.

The other thing I heard recently was that the director who did The French Connection and The Exorcist was considering an offer to be involved in season two.

Not overly excited about Farrell, he can be hit or miss but I agree he was good in Bruges. However, William Friedkin would be a great fit for this show if he brings his A game. I know I mentioned this recently, but I highly recommend checking out "Sorcerer" which he directed in '77 and finally came out on home video recently.

Honestly, I do like Colin. Don't think I've seen anything with Taylor but Vince Vaughn  Really young cast, ok younger cast.
Edit: I remember Taylor now from Friday Night Lights. Gorgeous guy with long hair. I approve :thumb:
