Yes, he is there with a delegation music industry people. Apparently there is Toronto-Austin music alliance. The delegation is there to promote Toronto as music hub as well as to learn what Austin is doing.
Speaking with reporters at city hall last week, Ford, who is paying his own way to Texas, said he wants to see how Austin, which is one-third of the size of Toronto, has turned music into a $1.6 billion per year industry.
“Music is huge around the world and we’ve got to capitalize on this. So I’m going go down there, I’m going talk to the movers and shakers, obviously, of the music festival,” he said. “I’m going to talk to the mayor … and find out how they are doing this, and hopefully replicate, and see what we can do to create jobs.”
Toronto’s music industry generates about $500 million per year, he said.
Billed as the Austin-Toronto Music City Alliance business mission, the trip will include meetings with Austin city officials as well as a stop on Friday at the Austin City Limits music festival. The mayor is scheduled to tour the festival grounds at 1 p.m., when the lineup features Savages, a post-punk band from the U.K., and Widowspeak, a Brooklyn-based indie-rock duo, among others.

AUSTIN (KXAN) - The City of Austin and the City of Toronto agreed Thursday to a partnership called the Toronto-Austin Music Alliance, which creates a commitment between the two cities to promote and foster the music industry.

The Toronto City Council decided to move forward with the partnership after the Austin City Council endorsed the program on June 27.

"An even more successful music industry will bring additional creative sector jobs and economic activity to both Austin and Toronto, while allowing for new opportunities for musicians and music lovers in both markets," said Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell.

Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford, said, "This alliance between our two great music cities creates a pipeline for enhanced trade and tourism between our creative communities. We look forward to this new relationship with Austin, one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S."

Studies indicate that Austin, known widely as the Live Music Capital of the World and approximately a third the size of Toronto, has produced a music industry that generates three times as much economic activity as Toronto.

Toronto, with a notable and growing number of live music venues, music festivals, recording studios, as well as independent and major labels, also generates thousands of jobs and significant economic growth.

"Like Austin, Toronto has an organic and growing music industry that generates significant economic activity. This Alliance will provide more opportunities for both cities to grow their music clusters, share best practices and create new audiences for artists," Toronto Councilman Josh Colle said.

According to Austin City Council Member Mike Martinez, a co-sponsor of the music partnership resolution said that Austin's creative sector economic activity increased by 33 percent since 2005.

"This is a great opportunity for us to advance our mutual interests in growing the music industry," Martinez said.

Some of the goals for the Alliance include:

Sharing knowledge of the best policy and commercial industry growth practices used in each city.
Creating easier ways for music product trade – export and import – including talent, products and tourism.
Identifying opportunities that help the cities grow the music industry in terms of jobs, revenue and salaries.

Canadiens & Bruins series should be good.

I'm going to cheer for Montreal since they are the only Canadian team.

Yeah the Kings look like they have got their mojo back. I hope this leads to a long playoff run and perhaps another cup.

I'm getting a little concerned for the blackhawks going up against the kings in the western conference finals the way Quick has been playing.

The blue line needs to be the focus if they control that end of the ice they will eventually score. They took too many chances on it tonight and it hurt them.

If The Blackhawks win another cup that'll make it 3 in a span of 5 years. That constitutes a dynasty in my opinion. This train ain't stopping for the Kings.
