its highly polished. I think I've heard pip live a handful of times. The instrument players in janes are very tight. Unfortunately that's all they have left.someguy wrote:To me, Strays seems more cohesive and sounds like a band playing together.I appreciate that aspect of it.SR wrote:Strays was a janes success. It accomplished exactly what they set out to do.....make a commercial, pop rock album. The songs are fun. I groove to them, and I'm a bit surprised it didn't gain more traction commercially. But it was their death mask as well

Re: So much for the hiatus
I remember going like HMV to buy Strays the day before the release date...the 18 year old girl told me she couldn't sneak me a copy and the said "Isn't that song great" (Just Because)...when I told her they originally came out in the 80's etc she was completely floored...so if Strays happened to turn a younger generation of kids onto JA then win win imo...I just hope they checked out the older stuff...

Fishbone to play after show(s?) for the Vegas run. Article hints that they may bring horns to the Jane's set, too.

I know none of us likes Strays, but I've also met some people who loved Strays, One guy actually told me their old shit sucks, but now theyre great.Essence_Smith wrote:I remember going like HMV to buy Strays the day before the release date...the 18 year old girl told me she couldn't sneak me a copy and the said "Isn't that song great" (Just Because)...when I told her they originally came out in the 80's etc she was completely floored...so if Strays happened to turn a younger generation of kids onto JA then win win imo...I just hope they checked out the older stuff...

This is much more along the lines of what this band should be doing.tvrec wrote:http://www.jambands.com/news/2014/03/03 ... xYxo1yRLCE

Probably 10 years ago now I posted a dream festival where Jane's would headline each night playing one of their first 3 albums. Eric would of course be on board. Each day would be filled with acts like Decon, Polar Bear, P4P, Banyan, Hellride, etc, as well as related bands like Fishbone, Chili Peppers and so on. Members from each band would sit in with other bands. Each night would end with a massive jam/performance from various members of all bands.
For me, that would have been the coolest thing Jane's could have ever done.
Re: So much for the hiatus
Strays was pretty successful for a band coming off a 20+ year haitus..

Define successful.clickie wrote:Strays was pretty successful for a band coming off a 20+ year haitus..
And 20+ years?
It had only been 12 since Ritual was released, and 6 since Relapse.
Re: So much for the hiatus
You think youre above anyone who enjoy listening to Strays?
Re: So much for the hiatus
Oh yeah ten+ years, damn I dont know why I said that.
Re: So much for the hiatus
Well it was nominated for a Grammy wasnt it?hokahey wrote:Define successful.clickie wrote:Strays was pretty successful for a band coming off a 20+ year haitus..

Re: So much for the hiatus
Rolling Stone gave it 4 out of 5 stars.
Re: So much for the hiatus
which says it all because they gave rit 2 stars
Re: So much for the hiatus
He asked for some examples why it could be considered a success. Doesnt mean I agree with them.
Re: So much for the hiatus

We EXPECT that to be the situation, which can only mean that somehow they will choose not to do it that way.
Re: So much for the hiatus
The idea of Hok's "dream festival" makes me think of this
Re: So much for the hiatus
You're a liar if you say you wouldn't go to that festival.
Re: So much for the hiatus
I hear ya. In fairness, that was 10 years ago. But even still, I'd go in a heartbeat.clickie wrote:The idea of Hok's "dream festival" makes me think of this

That's an interesting bit of logic gymnastics.clickie wrote:You think youre above anyone who enjoy listening to Strays?
Re: So much for the hiatus
Your examples of successful are interesting to say the least. Most people would probably choose "well received" or "highly purchased" to describe an album as successful. Not a single magazine review with a notoriously poor track record of scoring Jane's albums and a guess that it was nominated for what most consider a meaningless award.
