I live on a cul-de-sac in a middle class neighborhood, so you'd think I'd get a lot of kids with the absence of traffic, etc. I always stock up (kids are some of my favorite people on the planet), but I only get about 5-8 groups every year....for about 12 years. I'll keep stockpiling, and hoping.

At the risk of sounding old, I think candy doesn't hold the same amount of value that it used to among kids. I perceive candy to be far less scarce these days, hence less demand or more indifference among kids. I don't have kids...by my nieces and nephew have 24/7 access to candy, all year round. Maybe they're just spoiled. :noclue:

That's not a bad thing if your right. But I like the idea of offering a choice, and am open to ideas.....

Here we celebrate both Halloween and Día de los muertos (Halloween is for parties and as a kid I trick or treated for both holidays, for día de los muertos we actually asked for our 'calaverita' = literally it's money to bury your dead as a kid it meant candy). I've only worn costumes for parties. My favorite were the ones I got together with stuff I already had. One year I dressed up as The Crow, but the white paint I used for my face was so cheap that it made my face burn. The other one I liked was my 'El Santo' costume. I already had the mask and I just had to find some white shorts and tights to complete the costume. The shorts were the hardest to get.
Favorite holidays for me would be Independence Day and Día de los Muertos.

So what do they want now? I remember one year I forgot about it and I think I gave them some fruit cause that's what I had. I'm glad only a couple of kids just showed up that year or I think that they passed the news that my treats sucked. I haven't had any kids in the last couple of years. In my building there aren't any kids anymore.

One word-FOOD

And no expectations!
I like this, but I'd choose New Years. Always been my fave holiday.....love it as a metaphor.....I always feel like something needs to be revised, modified, or even razed in some cases in my world. Love the idea of a new beginning.

Maybe, but still, I think neither of us wanted money. Maybe as a teenager I would have, but as a kid, no way.

i would give mini toothpaste and dental floss out.

i live in a building but i usually go over to my mother's place to give out candy with her. there's a lot of kids in her neighbourhood, so she usually gets a pretty good turnout. many people on the street get really into it by decorating their houses and wearing costumes to give out the treats.
