This summer staple might be a real health flop. Aside from the obvious lack of protection (meaning you're more vulnerable to dropped objects, stubbed toes and the like), your favorite pair could be seriously damaging your feet. "The feet are the foundation of your whole body. This is the base of the skeleton," says Jackie Sutera, a podiatrist in New York City. "It's a domino effect... the rest of your joints and bones have to compensate.” Like anything else, moderation is key: Slipping flip flops on by the pool or for a short jaunt likely won't cause any harm — the problems arise when your thongs become your go-to summer shoes. Sutera, along with Cary Zinkin, a podiatrist in Deerfield Beach Fla., and a spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association, break down exactly what's happening to your foot when you slide into a pair.

And what's the difference between wearing a flip flop & this:
That popular shoe has absolutely no support either!
My fewest favorite flip flop
They're like walking on a cloud

It's better when you call them thongs. Like we do. It's funnier...
Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers

These are what I wear every single day...with jeans a lot of the time.
They are made from yoga mat material. I highly recommend them.

This is ridiculous. Our feet don't need support. What's the difference between a flip-flop and bare-foot?Artemis wrote:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/1 ... lp00000009

i tend to agree. many of the issues I had after running in shoes disappeared when i started barefoot running.hokahey wrote:

Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
artemis will do whatever she can to rid the world of flip flops. it will never work.
Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
She left out the face that she wrote the article whilst on a peyote binge after being thrown out of a shoe store when she was caught lighting the flip flops on fire.creep wrote:artemis will do whatever she can to rid the world of flip flops. it will never work.

I'm not really a fan of "flops" but I don't hate on em either...they are annoying to hear in the office...I DID wear a pair of Nike flops back in the day when they first came out and I also rocked em with jeans and this was in 1992-93 WAY before anyone was doing that...I lasted about a summer...I like "support"...when yall's get older and are complaining about your feet don't say ya didn't hear any better...

I just assumed that you need to use different muscles in order to keep them on your feet when you are walking around. I don't really care for the way they feel or look.hokahey wrote:

I never knew there were vending machines for them.
This Havaianas vending machine in The Galeries mall in Sydney, Australia offers a range of flip-flops for $20 each. On the ground in front of the machine is a useful chart illustrating the different sizes available, which shoppers can use if they’re not sure which size to select.
Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
I would be barefoot all the time if I could BUT I like a little rubber protection from the mean streets
And I only wear them into the office, then change into heels, then back into flip flops when I leave. (we're not allowed to wear them in the office)
Besides, I already have flat feet. They aren't going to get any flatter

Whoa, I was JUST at this vending machine yesterday. A buddy of mine took a picture of me standing in front of it.chaos wrote:

This is the coolest vending machine I've seen since the one I saw selling packaged meat in Alicante, Spain last year. Is this the only one of its kind, or is this common in Australia?

Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
They only had four different colors in it: black, blue, yellow and red (i think)
It was a sight to behold, regardless. I bought a way better pair of beach sandals in Darwin for only 15 bucks. These were pretty generic for $20

You would hate it here in MD... b/c this is pretty much how we do!
Even in the winter, if we can pull it off.
Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
Where in MD are you?
Re: Attention:Flip Flop Wearers
So to be considered flip flops does it have to have that rubber piece that goes between your big toe and the other one?
I wear these a lot because people are always telling me to take off my shoes before I come in. They look fine with pants.
