Not really. There's barely anybody out there who write GREAT songs with emotional honesty. You've either got bands that are too commercial or bands that are too hipster to write big/great songs. It's basically a massive sea of mediocrity right now.

For great songs with emotional honesty, refer to Panda Bear and Avey Tare.

Carolina Chocolate Drops is something I have been listening to a lot
Societys Parasites
Wugazi -- though that is not new just a mashup of Fugazi and Wu Tang
Sollilaquists of Sound
Roots Manuva Meets Wrong Tom
All the Madlib Medicine Show discs
Kingdom of Sorrow
Hanni El Khatib
Hedcat
Gary Clark Jr -- local guitar player about to blow up, heard the new record as it was being recorded
Black Joe Lewis and The Honeybears -- another local band from ATX
The Expanders
There is a lot more
