Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I’ve got a sinking feeling that if Dave doesn’t come to the show tonight (whether he plays or just watches), the end is near. As in, he left the band or is planning to. Just a gut feeling. If he’s not there, my guess is that there is a huge rift between him and Perry and/or Eric. Maybe it’s related to Taylor Hawkins’ passing. Maybe it’s related to Eric’s return. Who knows? But if he’s not around tonight, I don’t see him joining the band next year for anything.

Same, but why are they continuing to pretend like he's still in the band?Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 8:38 amI’ve got a sinking feeling that if Dave doesn’t come to the show tonight (whether he plays or just watches), the end is near. I don’t know what to think anymore. He tagged Eric in one of his stories the other day but it really seems like he has completely checked outHokahey wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 8:44 amSame, but why are they continuing to pretend like he's still in the band?Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 8:38 amI’ve got a sinking feeling that if Dave doesn’t come to the show tonight (whether he plays or just watches), the end is near. Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I don't think he's coming back. Based on what he chooses to post on social media, my impression is that he's no longer interested in JA. Looks like he is really enjoying his young wife and his art.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
What we know is DN is out of the band. Long term, who knows? If the goal for all is to make the separation permanent, it makes perfect sense that they don't announce. The band is on a fairly rigorous tour schedule and that type of disruption would take some compassion (the band is in a perpetual kumbaya moment) and laser focus with attorneys and management. My take...from a universe away is he's struggling mightily and likely loaded. It's not like he practices or writes, a position not welcomed by the current temp in the Jane's camp.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
By 'loaded" do you mean high and/or drunk? Or, loaded, burdened by his problems?

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I really Hope Dave is there tonight….watching if doing a song but anything to let fans know he’s still part of it.
My take is that for whatever reason he did not want to tour. Could have been “I’m just married I can’t tour right now” — could be I feel awful from covid still. Could be a Taylor Hawkins depression thing, guilt, could be drugs.
Could be a mishmash of all of that and Dave simply was not easy mentally to do it.
I was bummed that Mike Patton cancelled FNMs your last summer but, turns out he was drinking and isolated and mentally it ready
Whatever it was Dave tapped out on this tour. But the insistence that it’s temporary is still going.
I suspect he reneged last minute, when Perry gave the initial interview about tours not being just about the band, but the crew etc around them — that seemed to me some admission that things had changed swiftly and you gotta go out on tour.
I hope the band regroups and moves forward together.
But it’s JA, anything is possible

It looks like the Hollywood Bowl show is close to sold out as all there is on TM's site is scattered overpriced reseller tickets.

Looks like Martyn is gonna be there. Watching, at least.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Perkins' insta. Martyn took a pic of the marquee for tonight. I suppose it's a stretch to say he's 100% at the show, but it also seems funny to drive to the Hollywood Bowl just to take a pic of a sign.Hokahey wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 3:08 pmWhere are you seeing that?Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 3:05 pmLooks like Martyn is gonna be there. Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
If Dave really has long term covid we should give him the benefit of the doubt that he wants to be up there playing as much as we want to see him. Long covid is no joke, some people who have it need lung transplants. Sure you can stand around and take pictures and make grafitti and smoke cigarettes, but going on tour is a whole other thing.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
All anyone is saying is if he can't show up tonight to a show down the street and at least be present then it feels like he's no longer part of the band.clickie wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 4:26 pmIf Dave really has long term covid we should give him the benefit of the doubt that he wants to be up there playing as much as we want to see him. Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I just had a thought. Could Dave be upset about how Cheney was handled? First he loses Taylor then Cheney gets fired?
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Been revisiting this tours archives, and I regret not going to the Honda Center for this. I'm not gonna gush all over this, but there is that intangible moving target "it" element fluttering about here. In a way, it's sad for DN. Showing up or not, he doesn't and hasn't emoted any joy performing in this band for some time. It really hasn't bothered me too much as I deconstruct the gigs as they have touched me over the years. But seeing PFP and now this, it's like a revolt against complacency...and that's DN's definition.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I've thought that might be possible, but Cheney was still in the band when they cancelled the early Spring 2022 pre-Eric Lollapalooza South America shows. Also, they had to have done some rehearsing before those SA shows, presumably with Dave (who sounded and looked good in that podcast interview around Feb) before it was decided he couldn't do the shows.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I was thinking the same thing.
Now Dave has been supportive and even joking about Troy not getting too comfortable
That said…
Given who Perry is I’m kinda surprised that this entire tour he hasn’t been talking about Taylor. Maybe I missed it somewhere—but I’m fairly obsessed with watching clips and shows and there’s been nothing like that in his banter.
I’m grasping at straws I know but again…it’s all very odd.
