Re: nin
i havent been able to listen to it with good headphones yet, but i heard the ep twice and i liked parts of it a lot. in general, i agree with 6767 that it sounds more like trent going in the right direction.
i downloaded fragiles deviations 1 but havent had a chance to listen yet either. anyone give it a listen yet? i have high hopes and i really dont want to be disappointed, esp after shelling out $80

I was a little bummed to discover that *all* the tracks are instrumentals, including the "alternate takes."farrellgirl99 wrote:i havent been able to listen to it with good headphones yet, but i heard the ep twice and i liked parts of it a lot. in general, i agree with 6767 that it sounds more like trent going in the right direction.

I've been hearing a trend of music with this washed out sound. I would say this track was cool, if there was any mids in it. It's like the whole fucking electronic music scene is obsessed with filters. The song could be good after another listen, but fuck, it's such a bad mix. Not even edgy. Just washed out shit. Dave was on that? You could tell me anyone was one that track and I couldn't tell you, you were wrong. The mix is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo bad. Ehhhhhhhhhhhh.......get off my lawn.

They're also playing Panorama Festival in NYC on July 30th and are strongly rumored for Lollapalooza the first week of August.SR wrote:Hmm, they just announced the FYF fest here in LA...July23, 2017

Another new NIN track, to be included on a new EP called Add Violence coming out in a couple weeks.
....a bit more catchy then the previous few songs Ternt's cranked out recently, but still just meh.

I like the music even though it reminds me a lot of copy of a, but his rhyming lyrics have really been holding songs down for me.
Re: nin
The 2 new songs are garbage. I fully blame Atticus at this point. Every fucking thing he's been involved with since The Social Network soundtrack has been minimal drum machines, echo-y vintage synths, and random blips and bleeps.
Why even have Robin Finck in your band if you're going to keep churning out paint-by-number background music like this?

I actually like the new ep, esp Lovers and The Background World.
Some of his songs off these last two eps are miles ahead of hesitation marks for me.

fair enough. i listened to year zero and the slip recently and i love both those albums, so i am an easier customer than you i think theyre great
Re: nin
Year Zero was the last thing he did that I really enjoyed.
Ever since then it's been either weird garage rock guitars that lacked the punch of previous efforts, or just straight analogue synths and shoegaze guitars. None of it has been particularly memorable, which is odd coming from a guy who could sneeze out pop hits whenever he felt like it.
Maybe it's less commercially appealing now and that's why I don't like it? I don't know. I just feel like Atticus hasn't been the best writing partner for a man of his talents. It's all stuff I would put on in the background, not something i'd listen to with the intent of turning it up to 11 and singing along, you know?

So, I recently established an Instagram account (great for following various drummers I've found!), and the NIN page posted a photo of TR with a fan...."Paula" in a wheelchair backstage. FG, might you know who this is? I presume it is a message board person who is well know....but that makes me take pause as bands like nails have boards that have millions on them. Just curious.....
Here's a great interview I came across with TR....still an incredibly insightful man...

No clue on Paula. This is the only message board I go to, so not in the know.SR wrote:So, I recently established an Instagram account (great for following various drummers I've found!), and the NIN page posted a photo of TR with a fan...."Paula" in a wheelchair backstage. I also enjoyed the interview with Trent. He is a grumpy old man, but an insightful one.
NIN's Panorama fest set will be livestreamed tonight on yahoo, fyi. I am going to check it out since I opted to not go to the festival

Watched the livestream and thought they were excellent.
Seemed way more energized than the hesitation marks tour. would love for them to go on a proper tour after the summer/when the new ep is released.

Re: nin
I saw that it was streamed...haven't watched it....the review for the FYF show I read was excellent. I've seen them 3 times...first lolla which was revolutionary, then the Bowl in 07or 08 (I think) where I witnessed Jerome Dillon get fired, and of course NINJA where Rubin was just a kid on the drums. I've read he's evolved into an exciting and integral part of the live equation. Amazing drummer....Geek alert: Plays Q Drums a fairly small/boutique drum co that makes works of art that are also musical instruments.

Re: nin
If they have it available after the fact, id recommend watching it. rubin is excellent on the drums - during march of the pigs, he comes out from behind the set to play the keyboards and then goes back to killing it on the set. really cool to watch.SR wrote:I saw that it was streamed...haven't watched it....the review for the FYF show I read was excellent.
