SYTBS opinion poll
What's your current feeling on Perry's solo album?
Bonus question, has your opinion on it changed over the years or remained steady?

Re: SYTBS opinion poll

Pretty weak, Felt a rush buying it because its Perry. Some great lyrics, better than anything I could come up with. Music had some stale spots. 4 outta 10.
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
It basically sounded like an accomplished rock musician who decided to suddenly switch gears and test his foray into the universe of EDM.
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
I liked a few songs at the time, but not enough to keep me interested.

SYTBS, the song, is the only good one of the bunch.
Someone else must have wrote it. Maybe it was the last poem Casey had left behind before she moved out.

I really enjoyed it. I always heard it as Perry making a Bjork album about kabbalism. One of her producers even worked on it with him. Shakina was very much in the vein of Kimberly Austin. It had some GGU vibes.
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
I have always liked King Z
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
I had mixed feelings when it came out. Liked it though.
Listening to it for the first time in a while, the Shekina to Admit I part is actually pretty good.
But I can barely listen to the album as a whole.

Hated it then. Probably hate it more now if I bothered to listen to it.
Everything Perry has done after the first Porno for Pyros record has been garbage to me.
Yes, that includes God God's Urge.

I actually enjoy dancing to it. He "played" a couple of songs from this album when I saw him for the first time as DJ Peretz. Had a lot of fun to be honest. I remember this was a year before Strays came out. I listened to that one like 2 times.
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
Shekeina, SYTBS, and Admit I are really good songs.

Same here, that was the only song I remember hearing when he was still calling it Gobalee. I remember hearing it and thinking it was cool and then really not liking the album like a year later. Some cool ideas, especially if they were ideas he brought to Eric, Dave and Stephen!Mescal wrote:I have always liked King Z

SYTBS is a really good track. I also really like To Me and Our Song. I know what I'll be listening to this weekend.

Pretty much how I feel... although ggu had a couple of ok things on it...overall was a huge letdown after the self titledcrater wrote:Hated it then. Probably hate it more now if I bothered to listen to it.

I'd suggest a re-listen. I almost feel like everything Perry did pre SYTBS was before his time. GGU still sounds like the future, and in a beautiful way.
Re: SYTBS opinion poll
Already relistened to it...ya know last time you said to relisten to it, the last time we had this thread
Re: SYTBS opinion poll

Re: SYTBS opinion poll
It hasn't been in print forever, which is weird: the non-album/contractual obligation Rev is still available, but not the record that demonstrates Perry's bona fides in a genre he's actually interested in (recent vomit comet moments notwithstanding).
I've tried to check it out several times over the past decade or so, but I sold my promo copy in the early aughts and am too lazy/uninterested to torrent it. Wouldn't the label want to make some money vs. zero money by putting it on the streaming services?

Maybe at work today in headphones. I usually like to play off of my Sonos speakers using one of the three on-demand streamers I subscribe to.
