Yesterday I got to see a Norm MacDonald show. I think for me it was like what it must have been to see Henny Youngman in the 50s or Richard Pryor in the 70s. Coolest thing to see was how he had taken things he came up with on Conan or Letterman that had gotten huge laughs then and turned them into more carefully crafted jokes.

The only comedian I got to see really at the height of his creative power was Sam Kinison right after his first album and HBO Rodney Dangerfield show (that almost overnight broke him into the big leagues) aired. I saw him again in Las Vegas a few years later about a year or so before he was killed and he was clearly on a major downward spiral and coked out of his mind. I always wished I could have seen Bill Hicks in his prime.Adurentibus Spina wrote:Yesterday I got to see a Norm MacDonald show. I saw Carlin a couple of times. His prime ran from the late sixties until he died. He was my favorite human. period.
The only other comedian I've paid to see is Doug Stanhope. I like the way that guy's head works. His shows are really loose and go where they go, with some prepared bits to return to when needed.
I've watched just about all of the standup possible on the TV since I was little.
Norm MacDonald has always been funny, I thought.

is that the oregon desert? land is cheap as shit there. i always like driving through that area.
Re: What made your day today?
That is the oregon desert. I am seriously considering it and have done quite a bit of vetting already, just need to go see it, and a couple other prospects. Like you said, it is dirt cheap. There is nothing with it though (power, water, hardly a road) but that is fine by me. I would love to do some sort of compound thing over time with outbuildings and experimental structures. Do solar, maybe a well or elevated tank & propane.creep wrote: you bought more land???

The land might be complete shit (like don't want to hang out there in any season), I don't know until I see it, and there are a couple others as well that are in different areas of SE oregon.
Owyhee canyon/river access is just over a mile away over BLM land.
Something like this would be so awesome. Wouldn't happen for a decade or more due to money and time, but probably best to grab land when you can.
Oh, and taxes are only $52.80 a year.

On a whim decided to hit gg park and Outside Lands on my jog to see if I could catch any of St Vincent's set from the woods. At first it didn't look so good, too many fences and orange shirts around, but doubling back I cut through some brush and scurried up a hill still beyond the fence but there was a collection of hobos and kids with a twelve pack and a perfect view of the jumbo tron and pretty decent sound.
Caught most of the set, she has a great voice and stage presence, reminded me of kate bush, and the hobos couldn't stop commenting on how great it was to see a $300 ticket show for free, it was a good group.
Mxyplxxx are you working it this weekend?

Yeah... He turns 7 in a couple months, and he was born about 7 years after I first started frequenting Jane's boards...

Throughout the course of your week if you ever find yourself in a building, I think this would be of great interest.
At least I found it fascinating and pertinent/accessible.
Re: What made your day today?
Good news from an old internet friend (have known her since '97). She was diagnosed with breast cancer first and found out later she had bone cancer last year. She had some CT tests today and there has been no more bone damage in the past 6 months. This made me so happy today. Even if I haven't met her in person, she's been a really good friend and very brave through all this.
