Ritual Performance
Re: Ritual Performance
Since I'm turning 40, I guess I'm mushy and wouldn't mind going to see a Ritual show It was a milestone for me at 15/16.
Re: Ritual Performance
They're playing about 10 minutes from me in July. I was on the fence about going but if it's full RdlH show then I think I'll do it.
Haven't seen them since Lolla 2003. I skipped the 1.0 reunion shows because I didn't want my memories of the '90/'91 shows tainted.
Anyone know if the summer club shows are also Ritual shows?

Do you guys ever think the day will come that Dave or Chaney step up to the mic and sing some of the stuff that Perry no longer can/will?

Re: Ritual Performance
To much work for Dave and Chaney would just piss off and join The Cult (who are looking for a new bass player, btw).Six7Six7 wrote:Do you guys ever think the day will come that Dave or Chaney step up to the mic and sing some of the stuff that Perry no longer can/will?

Oh shit. Someone tell Avery. He could use a new band to quit.Pandemonium wrote:To much work for Dave and Chaney would just piss off and join The Cult (who are looking for a new bass player, btw).Six7Six7 wrote:Do you guys ever think the day will come that Dave or Chaney step up to the mic and sing some of the stuff that Perry no longer can/will?

Just need a boss pitch shifter, and delay pedal and they could emulate perry...Six7Six7 wrote:Do you guys ever think the day will come that Dave or Chaney step up to the mic and sing some of the stuff that Perry no longer can/will?
Re: Ritual Performance
Cheney should. Jane's and the Cult shared Martyn. They might as well share CheneyPandemonium wrote:To much work for Dave and Chaney would just piss off and join The Cult (who are looking for a new bass player, btw).Six7Six7 wrote:Do you guys ever think the day will come that Dave or Chaney step up to the mic and sing some of the stuff that Perry no longer can/will?
Re: Ritual Performance
Dave used to sing his one song fron TNO during Jubilee.
Re: Ritual Performance
He actually has a decent voice.

Re: Ritual Performance
I'm NOT in the "Fuck you guys for playing the Ritual album live in its entirety" camp.
I'm in the "Fuck you guys for existing without Eric...and Perry not being able to sing" camp. If Eric was still in the band and Perry could still sing, I'd be fine with the set list being "My Cat's Name Is Maceo" performed ten times in a row and "Thank You Boys" as the encore.

Then Perry sang, I think, Happy Birthday Jubilee with Dave on guitar.
Re: Ritual Performance
It's weird. I want to be excited about these shows. Then I think about Etty up there dancing and Perry's buoffont hair and giant white teeth and I can't.

And how badly the songs will sound

Re: Ritual Performance
Paradiso Amsterdam 1991 was among the best shows I've ever seen. It was everything that rock and roll and punk rock and performance can be. Of course with Morgan is indelibly etched in my mind forever. To create that sort of tribal stomp in the midst of an hour of primal explosiveness is something that mere mortal bands can only dream of.
The upcoming RDLH shows won't be as good.
But I'll go. Once.
Then I'll go back to reading what total shit they are, as recited by their only remaining fans.

Of course I'm going. Then She Did every show. Come on. Who knows, maybe they'll bring Morgan out, or maybe the Dude from the Mt Baldy show! I'm just hoping that Stop will not have the Suspension girls anymore!
Re: Ritual Performance
you're flying out for this festival, or just going if/when it comes to a theater near you? if the former, you'd best confirm that the advertisement is accurate. i have a feeling it's a misprint. if not, it's about the lamest roll out for a theme tour as can be imagined. the NS leadup was impressive - many people i know who know i like(d) jane's heard about it and mentioned it to me. none of them had any reason to utter the words 'jane's addiction' in many years before that.

Re: Ritual Performance
You say that, but as a percentage, 0.005% of the crowd is probably someone from these boards. So there must be still a heavy following. To be fair if they did a Ritual UK club circuit (which they won't) I would go to two or three near me that weren't in London.tubro wrote:Then I'll go back to reading what total shit they are, as recited by their only remaining fans.
Re: Ritual Performance
I'm not going to Austin unless I have a work thing there. I'm sure they'll be playing other shows as well. I bet there'll be some Brooklyn Bowl Vegas shows around Thanksgiving. I'd consider going there for the Ritual shows.
Re: Ritual Performance
You can be assured of it. There is no way Perry is going to learn an additional 2 songs and get used to a 9 song set to just NOT play it for the next 2 years.bman wrote:I'm not going to Austin unless I have a work thing there. I'm sure they'll be playing other shows as well.
Re: Ritual Performance
How hard is it to sing (learn?) a song....that you wrote....and you only have about 20-25 of them worth remembering?.....and that's counting ones where the primary thing to do is hum and maybe mumble a couple incoherent words........?
I apparently sing (along) more jane's tunes than perry does....?
Maybe I just don't understand what it is really like to be a musician.....?
springstein and vedder and bono must be absolute geniuses...?

A posting on ja.org "confirmed" the ritual performances per the band's manager.tubro wrote:you're flying out for this festival, or just going if/when it comes to a theater near you? if the former, you'd best confirm that the advertisement is accurate. i have a feeling it's a misprint. if not, it's about the lamest roll out for a theme tour as can be imagined. the NS leadup was impressive -

There's a difference between being a musician, and an entertainer.mockbee wrote:

Perry is an entertainer. He plays music for the glory and the fame. He does it to be the center of attention. He puts on sequins and shakes his hips and has backup dancers. It's about satisfying his ego to watch people fawn all over him.
Springsteen and Vedder and Bono are musicians. They play because they enjoy playing music. Standing up there in front of people for 3 hours is something they do because they enjoy it. They show up in street clothes, plug in, rock until they are exhausted, and then say goodnight after they have expended themselves. Then they go hang out with their musician friends on the roof of the venue and an acoustic and play more music.
Perry just plays the show because upon completion he has a reason to hop in his limo and head out clubbing to celebrate.

Re: Ritual Performance
To be fair, Bono screws up the lyrics to just about every song they perform, even warhorse tunes that have been played a bazillion times like Where The Streets have No Name.mockbee wrote:How hard is it to sing (learn?) a song....that you wrote....and you only have about 20-25 of them worth remembering?.....and that's counting ones where the primary thing to do is hum and maybe mumble a couple incoherent words........?

Re: Ritual Performance
