Going to Europe this year

#1 Post by perkana » Mon Jan 09, 2012 11:26 am

To Vienna, in particular. Will be there for a week (or more if I can spare). Last time I visited I went to Sissy's castle. Will be going this summer, any ideas, music/drink wise?

Beautiful city, lots of historic buildings, castles, parks - i was there 3 or 4 times. Loved it. Cannot recommend anything special music-wise/drink-wise.
The Hotel Sacher has the super sweet "Sacher torte", i remember it beeing so sweet i could not even eat one little piece. But it is delicious.

A must see:

(just realized you have seen that castle already...)

If you have time off, i would recommend a trip to the Neusiedler See / Burgenland. I spent some holidays there. Beautiful.
It is not that far away from Vienna, about 60 km if i remember correctly.

Thanks! I'm going for a congress so I thought I would take some time off and travel around. I've tried the Sacher cake in one of the street cafes. It was really really good. Hopefully I'm going to meet a friend over there and we might hit some pub/s. I'll have to see how many days I can be over there and talk to my advisor if I can take a small trip. But even if it's for a few days, I'll try to make the most of it.

go to Tuscany! I'd say Venice but it's so crowded during summer. I'd love to go back to Salzburg.

I am not really a fan of Italy :noclue: Austria is nice. I've been to Linz, Graz, Vienna, Meran - by car all along the Donau river.
I also love Budapest/Hungary. Beautiful city.

When i was a very young teen i always dreamt of a marriage in Venice

Paris is a must for first time in Europe...or second....or third... or fourth... or fifth. Budapest is nice as well. Cinque Terre in Italy was a nice cheap place to relax on the Riviera. Barcelona is great for old gothic and contemporary culture.

You should come to Brussels, so we can get married!

No, really, why don't anyone ever mention Belgium when they're talking about visiting Europe?
Nice city, good beer and food and a friendly atmosphere!

You can combine it with visiting Amsterdam.

Paris is very touristy, but well worth it.

Budapest is a beautiful city but I didn't like the atmosphere. People aren't really open around these parts of Europe.

Ah yes!! Gent is also excellent!

Beautiful city, a music scene, famous bars, nice people, cool shops, definitely a must go and oh so overlooked.

For most tourists Belgium = Brussels or Bruges.

But yes, Gent, def worth it

I'd love to hit all that, guess it's better to get one of those train passes? I've never traveled by bus
I went to Brussels when I was like 7, I remember (kinda) that it was nice but I was too young. Definitely will start planning when I get home
I would love to visit Prague, never been there

Back in '99 I lived in Hannover for 3 months and took a two week trip around Germany (if I remember I visited Berlin, Munich, Hamburg, Dresden, Leizpzig, Weimar, Cologne and Stuttgart). Also did the tour along the medieval towns like Rottenburg and Bamberg. This was during summer, which was really nice.

After watching a Room with A View, I've always wanted to have my wedding in Florence  I still think I love this city because of the book.

Nice. My fave german town is probably Hamburg. Love the harbour and the city is great.
