Today, I recovered 12 small books of Hägar I used to read when I was like 3 or 4 years old. I learned how to read by reading comic strips, and I didn't know this comic's background until today. Back in '87 my father bought these books, and they were imported from Colombia. Somehow, they decided to translate 'Hägar the Horrible' to 'Olaf the Bitter' :hs:

Oh, and I decided to take these books home after I started reading some Astérix comic books my brother bought. When we were little, Astérix books were kind of steep for my father to buy, so we only had this one:

My Grade 3 teacher's name was Mrs. Hagar. So, inevitably we called her Hagar the Horrible.

She was actually a quite nice teacher who most of the kids liked, so the name never really fit well.

I wasn't really into comics. I did like Archie and the Peanuts though.

I always wanted the Snoopy toothbrush...

i always liked Crankshaft

it was about some curmudgeonly old guy. We used to read the comics in 5th grade as a treat for getting our work done. I always chose that one. Kids my age didn't seem to get it. I thought it was hilarious.

Although just looking up some now, it's pretty tame and boring in comparison to what's on TV.
