Q Magazine's Oct issue is including a CD with various bands covering every song off Achtung Baby including the first Nine Inch Nails track since Reznor officially called the band quits as a touring entity a couple years ago. This is actually a pretty interesting and strong lineup of artists:

Nine Inch Nails – Zoo Station
U2 (Jacques Lu Cont Mix) – Even Better Than The Real Thing
Damien Rice – One
Patti Smith – Until The End Of The World
Garbage – Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
Depeche Mode – So Cruel
Snow Patrol – Mysterious Ways
The Fray – Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World
Gavin Friday – The Fly
The Killers – Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
Glasvegas – Acrobat
Jack White – Love Is Blindness.

I want that NIN Zoo Station cover but I'm steadfast against buying anything with Jack White's name on it.

I'll just steal it. Trent won't mind.

I just found his voice and approach too snob-cocky and annoying, specially when he started singing louder.

I thought that's what made the song...it conveyed despair.

It's a pretty interesting cover...but better than the original? Not even close.

Agreed. I liked it and thought White's approach of taking it further towards gospel blues was a good idea but the execution just missed the mark.

No, you did NOT. You said that entire world loves Jack White's cover more than the original and anyone who voices dissent shall have their genitals struck repeatedly with a toffee hammer!

Reznor's cover of Zoo Station. It's ok I guess, but I expected a bit more from it. It's actually kinda boring

I'm a fan of both U2 and NIN...but that's some weak sauce. The original blows that out of the water.

Of course, the NIN worshippers who have been shitting on U2 since this was first announced will blindly embrace it as a "masterpiece".

I consider myself to be a big NIN fan, but there is no way in hell I'll ever call this a masterpiece. This is probably one of the weaker things Reznor has done in a long time. I thought he was a perfect choice to cover this song, but maybe all that soundtrack work made him forget how to rock :noclue:

I actually enjoyed it... not that I prefer it over the original, but I thought it was well crafted and enjoyed the mellow side of it.

sounds ok, don't need to hear it again. I'd think Trent would hate U2 or at least don't like em, but there you go

Trent remixed "Vertigo" when it came out. Aside from that, he was into new wave and mainstream "alternative" in the 80s (back when U2 was both hugely popular and also cool with college kids).

Trent looked like he belonged in Big Country or The Alarm.

Regarding his take on Zoo Station, not what I was expecting (which is ok) but not a radical enough departure and kind of boring (which ain't so good). As if killing any guitar in the tune isn't bad enough, using a Casio-sounding drum machine sample along with tamping down the bass just drains the song of any energy. I guess it makes a good backing track for anyone who *does* want to play guitar along to it....
