I'm not saying it's a bad album; far from such a thing, actually. I just find it to be a bit scattershot, that's all. "Until the End of the World", "Love is Blindness", "Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World" and "So Cruel" took years to make an impression on me, and I still find those songs passable at best.

However, the album does open with a triptych of songs that, while nowhere near as brilliant as the three that open The Joshua Tree, does set a standard for quality for the album that's hard to maintain. "Mysterious Ways", "Acrobat", "Ultraviolet" and "Wild Horses" uphold this quality brilliantly. "The Fly" is pretty good, too. The other songs on the record...eh, not so much. But as far as elongating their career into the 1990s is concerned, the album was pivotal. Most indeed.

I still like "Pop" better though. Not all the songs on that album are winners, but the majority of them are compared to the ones on Achtung. For me, anyway.

True, true... I actually HATE "WIld Honey". I can't believe the lyrics include the word "monkey". That word should be forbidden.

From that album, the only songs I really like are "Kite" (which made me cry a zillion times) and some of the textures in "Grace". I find "New York", "When I Look at the World", "Walk On" and "Peace on Earth" really, very facepalm-worthy. "Beautiful Day" is a nice hit, made to be a hit.

I agree with you on the fact that U2 created better songs in one single album (say The Joshua Tree or The Unforgettable Fire) than in all the years after Pop.

This is my after-Pop list of good songs:

- Kite
- City of Blinding Lights
- No Line on the Horizon
- I'll go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight

That's 4 good songs in 14 years... hot damn'...

Sure, the last decade has seen a steady artistic decline for U2 but they've managed to release a lot more really good tunes than what you list. Here's my post-Pop picks:

Beautiful Day
Kite
When I Look At The World
Vertigo
Love And Peace Or Else
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own
No Line On The Horizon
Moment Of Surrender (live version)
Mercy

On the other hand, virtually everything they've tried to work up over the last couple years has been pretty terrible. The Spiderman tunes and the studio version of North Star suck badly.

....and really, "I'll go Crazy if I Don't Go Crazy Tonight?!?" God, I hate that song, both the studio and live versions.

I have to finish "Why The Fuck Do I Like Van Halen?" first.

Yeah, I love that song... the bass and drums are very Achtung-ish, and I just love that little melody that sounds at the beginning...

I hate the live version, though. I couldn't believe they destroyed it.

BTW... I believe all U2 fans should read this article... it still cracks me up: http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=11worst

For me, their worst song, at least the one I hate the most, has to be Boots...I just hate it.

I like the latter portion with the drums and "Let me in the sound".

For me, "Elevation" is pure torture.

Elevation, Vertigo and Boots are the same fucking thing: a hit so designed that turns into shit.

I used to hate "Vertigo" but I don't mind it now. Still the worst song on Atomic Bomb.

Uhm... I'm guessing your CD doesn't include "One Step Closer"?

Wrong. That illustrious honor goes to "All Because of You", the fucking nadir of post-Pop U2.

Though "Vertigo" is a horrible song, too.

At least, Vertigo is still fun live. Elevation, on the other hand, is plain lame. All Because of You is pretty bad too... too loud.

But today, the award for worst U2 song ever goes to...

Everlasting Love. What an annoying piece of shit.

To be fair, that's just a b-side knock-off cover and imo, it's a fun tune.

My pick for worst u2 song o' the day goes to "Yahwey." That one's almost Jump-The-Shark awful.

Are you seriously getting upset? Because that would be funny as hell.

Or are you just being ironic again?

In any case, lighten up. :noclue:

Let's just go back to discussing how awesome the nickname "The Edge" is.
