here is another good one for today
For all the scientists out there and for all those who have had a hard time convincing these people regarding the truth of the Bible, here's something that illustrates God's awesome creation and shows He is still in control. Did you know that NASA's space programmers are busy proving what has been called 'myth' in the Bible is true?

Praise The Lord!

ok i'm no scientist but if you actually read the article why would scientists be checking the position of the sun and the planets in the future to see if our satellites might run in to them. i think we would have much more to worry about if the sun or a planet was close enough to the earth to hit a satellite. :conf:

I just checked in on one of my sensitive Kate Bush "friends" I unfollowed to see what's up and found 6 pictures of his cat "Skittles" in various rooms of his house...all posted with in the last hour. The cat pics are posted daily. I like cats and do enjoy the occasional pic, but I'm not interested in the minute by minute replay. "Oh here's Skittles waiting to be fed"

Also, he posted that he just changed the bed linens. I think probably only Larry B and Bandit will find this funny.

I use both, but not overly obsessed with them. As I think Creep mentioned, Twitter is the greatest source for instant news and sport. I follow Jihadist Joe who can sometimes be amusing. He did go off for a while a few months back. I thought some nut bag extremist may have found him and killed him. But he came back.

kyla wrote:Never in my iciest, prickliest queer lesbian heart did I imagine the horror of straight people flooding social media with their wedding pics turned rainbow. All the necessary critiques and fears of the cooptation and erasure of queer kinship in the wake of the triumph of marriage have already become so dead-on that they are passé, as if from another historical era entirely. Now we just have to wait for states to repeal their civil union laws and associated benefits (the couple equality I support) one by one.
kyla wrote:My issue with gay marriage is not that it is a normalization campaign -- there are profound limits to the (often implicitly white) embrace of queer antinormativity as a politics. And my critique is not of individual folks who choose marriage as a fitting expression of their commitment. My critique of the SCOTUS decision (even as I did indeed feel a burst of surprise, validation, and warmth this morning) is that with gay marriage, we have gained not only the right to marry same-sex partners, but have also successfully wedded the considerable power of the LGBT movement to the neoliberal agenda. Legal marriage is not only the celebration of private love - it is, by definition, a political structure. And the marriage movement has not succeeded on account of the transformative power of love and the (imagined) gradual trend toward progressivism with the march of time. Marriage equality has transpired because of the larger political economy of the post-1970s that simultaneously enshrines the private sphere as the nation's moral and economic center (Silicon Valley, anyone?) and demonizes the public sphere as the site of waste, entitlement, greed, and indoctrination. Marriage doesn't "solve" the key issues facing LGBT people today: over 40% of the country living in poverty; immigration and naturalization policy; health care tied to marriage status, employment, or the multi-payer national scheme; police violence; legal workplace and employment discrimination; limited adoption rights outside of normative couples; the highest rate of incarceration in the world; the widespread policy of solitary detention for trans prisoners; record-breaking deportation; the criminalization of racialized and non-normatively gendered bodies; lack of housing for queer youth and elders; and the higher education bubble. These are issues that can only be solved through structural change at the state level. Marriage equality isn't just a "distraction" from these policy goals. Marriage equality enshrines the economically self-sustainable, domiciled couple as the good capitalist subject, furthering the neoliberal erosion of the notion of a public good.

There's a reason marriage rates in the US have been FALLING over the last two decades, even as the marriage equality movement has been marching toward victory. Legal marriage benefits those with money and creates further obstacles for those without. We live in the midst of the greatest economic inequality in the industrialized world and the LGBT movement has embraced and even furthered the underlying political and cultural practices that have helped bring this nightmare about. This isn't the way it had to be. Queer and trans movements began out of radical, multi-class, and multiethnic communities facing poverty and police violence and fought for broad economic redistribution, the redefinition of gender and sex, racial justice, and the overhaul of the couple as the basic unit of liberal democracy. And yet what we have now is a movement so singularly focused on marriage equality that not one of the mainstream LGBT organizations has so much as issued *a statement* in support of ‪#‎BlackLivesMatter‬ - not only the most significant movement for racial justice in decades, but one led by queer and trans women and men. This is why there are many of us queers today whose dominant feeling of pleasure (alongside a whole lot of sadness) is one of relief, rather than victory: marriage equality has won, marriage equality is dead, long live abundant, messy, polymorphous loves that imagine a world otherwise.
I am sympathetic to and agree w many of the radical, queer critiques of gay marriage, articulated beautifully by my friend Kyla, among others. However, the alternative to legal, bourgeois constructs of equality in the United States is not utopia, it's more often fascism. The question for me is less whether or not this is "progress" but rather, does it allow space, a quieting of the daily violence queer and trans people experience in their lives, a modicum of safety so that we may organize for something better.

Some friends who are happy about the marriage decision are posting what they think of as pushback against critics. A clarification I've made a million times bears repeating: The critique of marriage I support is NOT a criticism of folks who decide to marry, given the current legal realities. It is NOT a more-radical-than-thou pose of self-righteous purism. It is a materialist analysis of the role of the institution of marriage as a privatizing site at this moment in political economic history (as well as a historical analysis of the changing role of marriage in relation to state and economy). In addition, it is true that the marriage decision, under current conditions, makes the legal system fairer and life easier for many couples. Those folks, and those identified with them, have every reason to celebrate. But as even the mainstream LGBT legal research site The Williams Institute acknowledges, that decision actually also *harms* other LGBT folks, who are further marginalized in various ways (see their statement posted on my fb wall). These folks can not be expected to celebrate. There are also many organizations supporting marginalized LGBT folks that were impoverished or that died as all the gay money went to marriage (including my beloved QEJ). There is some bitterness in those quarters, and little expectation that the money will now go to counter poverty, immigrant exclusion and abuse, sex worker criminalization, violence against transwomen, racism and police brutality. It's not a matter of "now we turn to other issues," there has been a clear hierarchy of issues, with respectability politics framing what is fundable. That situation may only intensify now. So please, stop framing these critiques and experiences as "far left" utopian, purist, or rain on your parade-ism. These are material realities that affect how celebratory differently positioned people feel.

Kyla raises some good points and issues that are very important which need to be dealt with;however, it's going to take time. This is the first of many big steps.
(I bet your friend is vegan and attends menstruation workshops at her local health food store, am I right? :hehe: )

Other than a few people who just post way too much crap(my perception of crap) and a couple of Jesus(lite) types, none of my friends have emerged as racists or homophobes.

A woman I went to junior high and high school with wrote this short piece in Huff Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/shelley-w ... 67674.html
My 10-year-old son and I went to the steps of the Supreme Court this morning to soak up this historic moment.

I am a Canadian woman who has been married to an American woman for sixteen years. We had a commitment ceremony in Maine. We have been legally married in San Francisco (and then this marriage was annulled by the courts), in Canada (this marriage stands) and, with the recent Washington, D.C. City Council decision, our marriage in Canada is now recognized in the District. So, we're now married, but not for the purposes of U.S. citizenship.

My two sons have been raised in a world where having two moms is totally normal -- and wonderful. They understand that the law has somehow not kept pace with the times -- they get this when I have to separate from my family and go through a different line at U.S. customs. And they understand that the courts now have a chance to catch up with the times.

The first signs that we saw this morning were "Death Penalty 4 Fags" and "Obama Go to Hell." We walked through and past the pro-DOMA picketers to pick up American flags, a DOMA Project "Binational Couples Fight for Equality" sign and join the more numerous and celebratory pro-gay marriage supporters.

Initially, my son was subdued, taking it all in. There were not many DOMA advocates there, but they were doing their utmost to command attention. Once over being a little stunned, he started asking questions: "Why are (DOMA supporters) so mean about this and how can they be allowed to use words like 'hell'?" My son has strong sensibilities about the use of profanity. In his judgment, the police officers all around us should have insisted that the "Obama Go to Hell" sign come down. He noticed their commercially-produced signs (our side had homemade, hand-scrawled signs) and wondered who would agree to produce these kinds of hateful signs in the first place. Giving it all more thought, he asked why these supporters of DOMA care so much about this issue, saying "it really won't matter for their lives" and if DOMA is overturned, "so many more people in America will be happy."

As we started to leave the steps of the Supreme Court and were approaching supporters of DOMA, I asked my son if we should walk through or around the group. He was quick and clear in his response, "Let's walk through them." As we waited for the light to turn, steps away from a gay couple kissing in front of the "Death Penalty 4 Fags" sign, my son made a point (subtly) of turning around our "Binational Couples" sign to face DOMA supporters.

I was inspired by my son this morning. I was inclined to walk around, rather than through, the group of DOMA advocates. I have hope that kids in this country are growing up with the sensibility and clarity and conviction of my 10-year-old. And, in the meantime, it would be great if we can all catch up with them.

Yeah....she always has something to say, and I do agree with most of it. Tough to see where she will get with it, an internal LGBT fight really, though as a prof in the ivy league tower she has plenty of company but little interaction with the regular folk.

another stupid post from a facebook "friend"
New evidence shows that Dylann Roof accused shooter in black church shooting is a very good and and loveable kid, say friends and family. Witnesses state that he was provoked by the violent church goers, And had no choice but to start shooting further stating the church was just a front for drug dealers and he was trying to clean up the neighborhood.

Seems fitting to put this here in the social media thread.

For those who can't understand, here is a transcription:
You know, I never even saw his Snapchat. It was her that saw his Snapchat. He says it’s on my Snapchat, but I’d never even done a Snapchat that night. It was him that did the Snapchat, and she saw it. She took a screen grab of her Snapchat, and he tried to deny it. He was like, “I didnae like her Instagram,” and I was like, “Oh, you did like her Instagram.” And he was like, “No, I just liked the Facebook post. It was a screen grab of her Instagram. It wasnae her actual Instagram.” But Amy... Amy... a like’s a like.
Amy: A like’s a like.
I was raging! I was like, “You favorited her tweet, and you liked her Instagram by proxy by liking her Facebook post that was a screen grab of her Instagram... You shared her Tumblr, and she saw your Snapchat, she took a screen grab of your Snapchat, and she tweeted it and you favorited it.” And he was like, “No, no, listen... I only favorited her tweet because it was a screen grab of my Snapchat, no’ because it was her that took the screen grab. And I only liked her Facebook post because it was a screen grab of Instagram, and I like Instagram, no’ because I like her Instagram. I only shared her Tumblr because I like that meme, that thing frae Twitter that she’d Tumbled about.” Because earlier that day on Facebook, apparently somebody had posted a screen grab frae Instagram, and he liked it. “No’ because I like her,” ’e said. “No’ because I like her.” But Amy, what am I always sayin’?
Amy: A like’s a like.
A like is a like. Ugh! Amy, listen... Never fall in love with a liker.
