Halloween costumes
Anyone here love Halloween?
I always plan to budget for my Halloween costume, hoping it won't cost me that much money. Anyway, I started costume shopping last week. $300 later.

Re: Halloween costumes
As an adult, I've always stayed far away from this holiday. I hate attention whores and hate undo attention drawn to me
Re: Halloween costumes
i haven't dressed up since i was a kid. if i had some party to go to that required it i would i guess but i just enjoy handing out candy and seeing the kids all dressed up. my parents go out to eat on halloween night to avoid giving out candy which i think is weird.

I wouldn't equate everyone who celebrates Halloween as attention whores.SR wrote:As an adult, I've always stayed far away from this holiday. I hate attention whores and hate undo attention drawn to me
It's like people who are into fashion (everyday)...some people dress for the attention from others, other people dress for themselves and their own satisfaction.
So for example, when it comes to Halloween, if someone doesn't recognize what I am supposed to be dressed as, I don't really care.
Re: Halloween costumes
It's just a general observation from y experience. I didn't mean you or anyone in particular.
Re: Halloween costumes
Usually there's some party or other... I've got a couple of costumes I've used over and over because I don't really care either way, and it doesn't take much effort. It does generally seem like a very kid-oriented holiday unless you use it as an excuse to drink a little bit more than usual, which I guess is a good idea. Pumpkin ales are sometimes tasty.

Re: Halloween costumes
Back in my twenties, there was a few years my friends and I went to a few adult holloween parties and had to dress up. One year, We swiped a few hazmat suits from my job, plus toolbelts stocked with kitchen implentents like tongs, etc looking like Ghostbusters and went as "Nuclear Gynecologists". Another year, I went as Angus Young of AC/DC complete with Gibson SG. Both big hits.
Re: Halloween costumes
the attention whores are the girls who dress as a sexy nurse or any normal occupation that has the word "sexy" in front of it.
It always struck me as the girls want to be strippers but don't have the nerve.
My BEST costume was back in 2008 and I dressed as "carrie" at the prom. I was COVERED in blood in a white prom dress & long blonde wig. I specifically got theatrical blood from the makeup artist who did the frozen makeup on the Titanic people in the movie www.dearbloodymary.com that wouldn't stain my skin. I was in Manhattan and was stopped everywhere by tourists wanting to take pictures with me.
Next I want to be Baby Jane Hudson. If I could only talk one of my friends into being Blanche

Re: Halloween costumes
Perhaps, but it may also be a larger cultural pattern. My partner and I were looking through the Halloween City catalogue the other day, remarking how hyper-sexualized the costumes for pre-pubesent girls were.Romeo wrote:the attention whores are the girls who dress as a sexy nurse or any normal occupation that has the word "sexy" in front of it.

halloween flawed because it's on a different day of the week every year. it should be on a saturday night.
Re: Halloween costumes
Thats pretty cool Tyler gets totally into it. I used to buy some crazy looking scary masks when I was younger and build a costume around that. I'm pretty sure most of us has probably been a star wars character at some point in our lives.
Re: Halloween costumes
please post a pic of that Drive costume.....just checked on ebay, you can actually buy those silver jackets. Who the fuck would wear those every day? For halloween it's cool, otherwise leave it alone. That's Gosling/Refn's thing
