we don't have the last pot of coffee issue at the office because we have something like this:

Brews a fresh cup everytime. You just have to make sure it's filled with grounds and it's hooked up to the water line. We're all just zipping with caffeine!

many of these seem like pet peeves and not "quirks"

I have to neatly stack the dirty dishes until they get washed.
i dont know why, it serves absolutely no purpose.

Under "quirks"...I have/had a habit of walking around when I talk...like if I'm at a family gathering and I'm holding court I tend to stroll a bit as I talk...growing up my grandmother used to say I looked like a preacher when I did it...I was only reminded of this when yesterday I saw my son talking to her and walking around as he did it... :hehe:

I can't go to bed unless there isn't a dish in my sink.

I have to have something to drink in the car (coffee or water) when driving

When I am ready for bed, I can't move to wash them.

Is it only dishes in your sink, or do you also hate things like messy desks/tables/drawers? (Seems to me like those would all go together, but I guess if this is a neurosis we're talking about, it could be specifically dishes for no apparent reason...)

have you ever had a dishwasher? would dirty dished in the dishwasher bother you?

no, because as a single person it would take me a week to fill a dishwasher

and AS, that's what kind of makes it funny because I'm not a neat freak, my dining room table could have a weeks worth of junk mail piled on it etc....

Yeah that is quirky (and why I wondered). I tend to let stuff pile up. I hate cleaning up, but I do recognize the value in it, and do sometimes feel better if I manage to get a bunch of cleaning done... I just can't compulsively clean, or even force myself to clean as I go (esp. with dishes).

I drive my wife nuts when I vacuum. I literally pull the living room apart, moving all the furniture to one side, then the other to get every inch of carpet. It's a half day ordeal.

Well, having a Labrador that sheds all the time is part of the motivation - I get pretty wound up when I see doggy fur tumbleweeds gathering on the floor. But I've always been like that since I was out on my own at 17.

I bought an older model Roomba. It goes under my couch easily, and into corners. It doesn't have suction as powerful as a Dyson or anything, but it also doesn't have belts that can break easily, and the method for emptying it is so much better than canister or bag vacs. I run that thing a couple times a week while I'm doing other stuff (like washing dishes, which I also hate), and it keeps the cat hair pretty much under control. I know they make a model for pet-hair that would probably deal with Retriever hair (my parents have a Golden so I know exactly how bad it is) a bit better. Worth thinking about... since at least that way you wouldn't have to move all the furniture, and you could just do the intensive cleaning with the regular vac once a month or something.

I had an older model Roomba about 4 years ago and while it did ok on the (fake) wood floors in the dining room, kitchen and hallway, it just couldn't get around on the thick carpeted living room and bedrooms.

Speaking of vacuums, After my father-in-law passed away last year, we had to go to their house in Tuscon to help move mom-in-law to Atlanta and load the moving truck and either take, donate or trash anything she didn't want (which was a *lot* of stuff) as she sold the house. One of the things I decided to take was a large shop vac. A while back I finally had a need to use it for something in the garage and it stunk really bad so I opened it up to dump and clean it. Inside there was some dirt and dust and the dried up dead corpses of a couple mice and about half a dozen large tarantulas, all of which looked like they'd been in the canister for about 5 years. I later find out that grandpa would "vacuum" up any mice, tarantulas - whatever critters he'd find in the yard, garage or even in the house. But he'd never empty the thing.
