i get hung up on little things in movies and it makes me hate them. i wish i was able to enjoy mindless action films but i can't.

i saw part of cowboys vs. aliens today. i already knew that it wasn't going to be my type of movie, but i tried my hardest to enjoy it for what it was, but i wasn't able to because:

1) how could those big, brutish alien creatures with claws build a space craft and pilot a space craft? they didn't even have opposable thumbs.
2) indians helped fight the aliens too. why wasn't it cowboys and indians vs. aliens?

I rinse them too, now that I think about it (when I have to cool them off after boiling them) So you're not alone

everybody does, minus the ones who love to get their hands fried. Not much of a quirk there.

My father, who really had some OCD behavior and neat freakishness about him, washed oranges and grapefruits before peeling them with a knife. When I asked why he did that, he said he didn't want to get any germs or bacteria on his fingers because after peeling he would handle the flesh of the fruits with his fingers which would then go in his mouth.

That's actually not that crazy. I know a bunch of people who do that. People handle fruit in stores all day long. If they've got e. coli on their hands, even if you peel the skin, you've now transferred it to your hands, and then to the fruit.

Yup, I do that. I thought it was pretty normal.

I thought the same thing, I think I might start doing it too actually. But still, when you're that obsessed about germs isn't the irony of it that you end up being more sick than 'regular folks' who care less about them because you kind of tell the body that it's in danger of being infected all the time and thereby you kind of weaken your immune system just by thinking like that?

I went to India and Nepal when I was twenty. Me and my friend would drink tee from vendors on the street from glasses that were full of all kinds of nasty germs probably and stuff like that all day long. But we had that young person mentality or whatever you want to call it where you kind of think you're kind of invincible and immortal almost, and I wasn't really sick overthere at all almost and we traveled for 7 months. I attribute that to the mindset I had.
If I went back today I wouldn't have that anymore, and I'd probably get sick a lot more cause I'd worry about things I didn't worry about before. 'This fork looks clean, but is it..hmm??' wouldn't work

there's also insecticides and/or fertilisers that you might wanna wash off the skin of fruits and veges before you cut or handle them... unless of course they are all as safe as I'm sure the manufacturers and industry movers and shakers claim they are.....

other than my father, i've never seen anybody wash citrus fruits before peeling them. :noclue:

most people here don't even use a knife to peel, just fingers.

I always wash fruits and vegetables. I assume everyone would at least wash something like grapes, where they're going to eat the entire thing.

If the oranges/apples come in a bag, I don't think it matters at all. But the ones that sit out all day... yick. Though I don't wash bananas (but people don't really "test" bananas the way they do other fruit, for ripeness, so they seem less likely to be contaminated.)

I have a saying. "The last step of every project is CLEAN UP." And it drives me fucking crazy when someone doesn't clean up their shit when they're done.

I could understand that if you were a manager of some people. It would probably be annoying to work for you, but at least it makes sense.

But if you said that to people generally... why on earth would they give a shit what you think the last step of every project is? :scared: Just curious...

@Artemis... I love you.

@Hype... it is in my opinion, the decent thing to do. That last 10 seconds to 5 minutes of ANYTHING one does, is the easiest part! If someone eats a piece of fruit, they'll probably wash it first. While standing next to the sink, they'll take the sticker off the fruit and stick it to the edge of the sink or cutting board or whatever... then they'll wash the fruit and dry it off. Then walk away. On a scale of 1 to 10, that orphan sticker... that just sits there after they left... it propels me from a 2 to a 8 in just a few seconds. Burns me up!!

Things like that are all equal in my eye.

Open a thing of yogurt and leave the tinfoil lid on the counter? RAGE.
Eat a bowl of cereal and leave the box out of the cabinet? RAGE.
Take the last cup of coffee at work and not start a new pot? RAGE.

Maybe it's me... :tiphat:

Yeah, it's one of those things... There are lots of things that are decent things to do... but probably getting angry all the time about people not doing them is bad. You might end up sounding like Larry B.

Maaaaannn life is just too damn short to get too peeved about people being people, or be so set in one's ways or have preferences so strong that things like not being able to wash your fruit or someone leaving a drop in the milk carton or wearing flip flops or whatever gets under your skin...I definitely have a few pet peeves but I refuse to let people get me po'd because they are either not sensible (imo) or have funny habits or whatever...to each their own...I was particularly perturbed by a poster here who came to visit me here in NY and refused to get a cell phone...a lot easier to get in touch in the big city when ya got one, but ya know, live and let live...

I have become that person. I don't do it with coffee but I use up all the hot water and leave it for someone else to fill up. Same with the printer and paper. All I care about is that there is enough paper for what I needed printed. I use to be very thoughtful and courteous at work, now I just do what I need to do for me. I got tired of being one of the people who always fills up the printer, gets toner, fixes it, etc.
