not looking forward to this, New Jersey looks like it will get hit. Last year I was without power for 5-6 days because of the snowstorm. No Halloween for the kids because the whole town was without power. My daughter isn't happy that it could be two years in a row with no halloween.

I really don't like watching spaghetti models at the end of October.

Now it's supposed to make landfall anywhere between VA to Eastern LI. That's a lot of ground. Which means to me....they don't have a clue.

She's a tropical storm....she's a hurricane....she's a tropical storm....
These news people are just creaming themselves over this one.

I've got a bottle of Old Man Guavaberry Mango flavored rum and 2 cartons of cigarettes. I'm good.

The news coverage of this storm has been freaking me out. Fortunately we are not get to get hit as hard as other places - like NJ. But who knows, as Romeo said it changes every five minutes. Be safe LJF and check in with us if you can.

Hurricane Sandy to reach Massachusetts late Sunday night
By Martine Powers
Globe Staff / October 27, 2012

Hurricane Sandy is expected to make landfall in Massachusetts late Sunday night, National Weather Service meteorologist Bill Simpson said this morning.

The Category 1 hurricane’s center is aimed to hit the southern New Jersey coast first and it will lose its hurricane status by the time the storm system reaches the Northeast, Simpson said. But that’s not a reason for New England residents to let their guard down, he said. The storm’s wide girth means Massachusetts residents will still bear some of the brunt of the storm’s force, he said.

“It definitely will not be a hurricane when it gets up here,” Simpson said. “However, 65 mile-per-hour winds, whether it’s a tropical storm or a regular storm, you’re going to the same amount of issues, and you’ve got to be prepared.”

After the slow-moving storm reaches New England, it is expected continue until the wee hours of Tuesday morning, he said.

The storm’s forces will bring high winds to the eastern part of Massachusetts and heavier rains as it moves west, Simpson said. Boston-area residents can expect 1 to 2 inches of precipitation, though commuties in the Berkshires could see up to 5 inches.

Even if the hurricane is downgraded before it arrives in the Norheast, Simpson said, it is possible that the New England area can still see a slew of power outages. But that will be nothing compared to New Jersey, he said.

“They’re going to get really whacked,
” Simpson said.

It looks like the west coast is trying to compete with the east coast. There was a 7.7 earthquake off the coast of Canada. Tsunami warning for British Columbia and Hawaii; Tsunami advisories for CA and OR.

7.7-magnitude quake off Canada's coast triggers tsunami warning
Editor's Note: A 7.7-magnitude quake struck off the coast of Queen Charlotte Islands in Canada late Saturday, triggering a tsunami warning as far as Hawaii. Reports of major damage have not yet emerged. Here are the latest developments:

[Update 2:02 a.m.] The National Weather Service now says that a tsunami ADVISORY has been expanded to include northern California and southern Oregon. Bear in mind, this is an advisory, NOT a warning. An advisory means a tsunami capable of producing strong currents or waves dangerous to people near the water is expected.

[Update 1:45 a.m.] Here's a recap: A large quake has hit off the coast of Canada. We have just received news that a tsunami warning has been issued as far as Hawaii. If you know you're in an evacuation zone in Hawaii, you need to pack up and move out.

In a little less than three hours, about 10:38 Hawaii time, the first waves will hit Hawaii.
What areas of Hawaii? The towns of Kahului and Hilo are likely to see a succession of waves. The shorelines will be dangerous for a couple of hours. "Basically this tsunami is pointed right at us," said Gerard Fryer, senior geophysicist at the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

. . .

[Update 12:44 a.m.] Fryer also clarified exactly what area the tsunami warning encompasses: It is for coast of British Columbia, from Vancouver to the southern panhandle of Alaska. Hawaii is NOT under warning.

Just getting as prepared as possible. Food, water to drink, and filling up bathtubs with water. I'm on a well system and if we the power goes out no more water. We have a lot of trees on the property so I walked around today and gave them all a chat. Sounds crazy but it makes me feel back.

Romeo, Farrellgirl99, and E.S. I think all three of you are in NYC or the boroughs stay safe, anyone I missed that is in the path stay safe.

I'm in Southern portion of Nassau County, Blackula is on a barrier Island just south of me. He had mandatory evacuation this morning. I got 2 alerts, one said voluntary, one said Mandatory. :hs: I'm not evacuating this time like I did for Irene.

I've seen models that said we weren't going to get bad wind, I've seen models that said we are. :hs:

be safe all!!!!

Also CVS on Atlantic Ave in Oceanside still had some D batteries and cases of bottled water if you still need supplies

Stop & shop however was wiped out of Entenmanns lool

Euro models are most accurate.

I'm on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. We'll catch a lot of the West and South West side of the hurricane.

I was supposed to pick people up a Logan airport hours ago. They haven't even left D.C. yet. Some kind of mechanical problem. They've changed the estimated times of departure/arrival about 5 times, and it's now been delayed for five hours, and I have no reason to believe their estimates. If they can't fix this shit today, they could be stuck there.

I'm a little concerned about my commute the next couple of days. I'm also concerned about the danger of falling trees/limbs where I live, which is the primary problem I have around here with big storms. Always ends up a giant mess, at best.

Stay safe, y'all. Looks like they're gonna wait to cancel classes for us out here. Anyone know when it's supposed to hit? From my estimates, we will start getting rain tonight, tomorrow, and then it'll really hit tomorrow night.

Lindsay Lohan ‏@lindsaylohan

WHY is everyone in SUCH a panic about hurricane (i'm calling it Sally)..? Stop projecting negativity! Think positive and pray for peace.
