Yeah I caught that on the news tonight. At this rate, it'll probably get pushed back to late afternoon right around LA area Friday rush hour!creep wrote:your times are all fucked up now. they pushed it back an hour to let the fog hopefully break.
Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
Hmmm... that might put it over the Golden Gate Bridge around the time I usually cross it...
If I can remember, I'm going to keep an eye out... any idea where to go for updates?

Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
That's really cool.
That would be so awesome to see it over the GG bridge.
Yeah, timing is everything here. I'm sure it will be touch and go even tomorrow. But I have a good shot at seeing it I guess from the train. Redwood City, San Bruno or San Mateo.
At first I thought Pandemonium's locations were in order and I was like.....what the hell?????

A guy on another list I'm on works for the FAA out of LAX and said they won't release the actual flight path and exact flyover times because of security issues and of course due to things out of their control like weather conditions.MYXYLPLYX wrote:Hmmm... that might put it over the Golden Gate Bridge around the time I usually cross it...

Watched the take-off from the gym. Can't wait for the fly overs in LA
Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
here are my shuttle pics
Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
Yep, my pic is of the bridge about 15-20 minutes before it flew by. I couldn't wait any longer and there was no where to park.
Of course, I got a great view of it as I sat at a light on my way to work in San Rafael...

rode my bicycle from the northeast side of lax to the northwest side to the southwest side to the southeast side. People everywhere. Cops everywhere. No one knows if it's landing from the west (over the ocean) or from the east. Or what time. I will say this. The cops have been really friendly, if a bit befuddled.

Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
So, a fairly bitchen day.
I bolted from the south side to the north just along the runway. I figured fuck it. I'd ridden about 20 miles and parked it next to these folks with radios and star trek shit. I borrowed a tin foil hat and found out the plane was leaving santa barbara..looked north and sure enough it was flying by about 8 miles in front of me due east. About 20 minutes later we all are in awe as it is flying right towards us at LAX. It does a fly by at about 1000 feet right by us. So cool. We all waited as it came back and did another fly by for the people on the south side. OK, wow. About 20 minutes later it comes in for its landing on the south runway coming from the east.
All in all, very nice. I couldn't help thinking as it was on the close fly by that that machine has done just under 20,000 miles an hour on multiple occasions upon re-entry.

It's being housed at the United hanger at LAX until the 7th of October then it's going to it's new home.....Museum of Natural History (?), by SC?

Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
Like a tourist, I decided to drive the 15 minutes (or so I thought) North to the Queen Mary/Marina area in long Beach around 10:30am. Little did I know everyone and their brother was doing the same thing and top that with typically shitty Long Beach traffic control, it took me almost an hour to park in the boat marina near the hotels. Thought I had a perfect vantage point but when the shuttle finally flew over, it banked a bit north instead of flying right overhead and it was over in like 10 seconds, lol! I shot video, but my camera had trouble focusing because it was mostly right in front of the sun at my angle. Still, it was pretty impressive. Here's a few screen grabs from my shaky-cam:
Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
Impressive, indeed. I saw it, unintentionally, hauling over the Anaheim stadium going southbound on the 57 to pick my kid up from school. I didn't know I would be excited until I actually saw it. Imagine if there were nothing on the news and one day such a site just showed up in the sky!
Re: California Space Shuttle Friday Fly-Over Schedule
Yeah, good news. I just heard on a local news station that it will be transported on the 12th or 17th through Inglewood, Crenshaw district, etc.creep wrote:i looked it up...it's going to the california science center and will be ready oct 30. that's pretty quickSR wrote:It's being housed at the United hanger at LAX until the 7th of October then it's going to it's new home.....Museum of Natural History (?), by SC?
