I don't even care about the drugs. I care about the fact that he's an idiot and a liar and a convicted drunk driver and a bigot and an ideological pawn who doesn't actually know how to do anything other than answer his phone, repeat things his brother and lawyers tell him to say, and apparently hang out with drug dealers (like his brother). I don't care if someone was a drug dealer or addict or whatever in the past, so long as their present actions aren't fucked up. But Rob Ford is not a reformed anything. He is a potato. He has the intellect of a potato, and he is both systematically trying to ruin any and all progressive policies in the fourth largest city in North America, and making it look stupid too. City services have suffered huge losses under Ford, and it would be worse, but City Council has managed to stop him from doing some of the most drastically stupid things he has tried (like major personnel and service cutbacks to the shelter-housing and abuse-management system). It's sickening.

He was an absolute waste of flesh before all this came to light, and I was mostly just annoyed that it was a bunch of homophobic bigots and blinkered conservatives who voted this idiot into power over the more progressive candidate supported by the majority of the downtown core. But now it's just mindboggling.

I actually feel somewhat bad for the guy, as a human. He is the human equivalent of a pathetic potato.

What's with all the negative use of a potato? Potatoes are delicious, versatile, hardy, good for you (generally speaking) and just generally awesome.. Something this clown clearly is not... Leave de potarten alone! Meanie...

So my hubby got the confirmation from the rehab centre he wants to go to. :thumb: Finally they called him today.
I guess some of you may remember what i posted in the "what's annoying you" thread.
He'll be away for about 12 weeks from next thursday on...strange feeling, we never were separated for such a long time.

Potatoes are great. They just shouldn't be mayor of Toronto. Anyway, it made my day yesterday that he went full Marion Barry.

Glad to hear Warped's news. Hope it goes well.

Yes warped. Good news. I'm not sure where yr husband has, might, of will find his center in this very, very difficult charge he's making, but here are a couple of suggestions for secondary resources.

I highly recommend "Thinking Simply About Addiction" by Dr Richard Sandor. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/thinkin ... 1585426881

It's title is misleading; it is anything but simple. I think Sandor lapsed in his understanding between the disconnect that exists between the layman and the physician when he agreed to the title. In all the literature I have ever read on the subject, this is the best, by far, in terms of brass tacks commentary on the automatastic nature if the condition when active (drinking/using) and when dormant. It goes a long and meaningful way in sensibly answering many questions and to debunk some inevitable concerns about the remedies 12 step programs offer. Don't worry. He's a 12 step advocate generally, but doesn't hesitate to settle irrational notions that are passed along within the group from generation to generation.

The other is a more serious study by George Vaillant......."The Natural History of Alcoholism". This work is one of a kind in the field. It is the only longitudinal study ever conducted. As such, it lacks the normal standards for 'verification' but is supported by almost all intelligent interpretations of real time data provided by alcoholics and junkies. It. Follows some 80 or so late teens for about 40 years. Half the group are blue collar bound.....the other, Ivy League bound. Written for colleagues of Vaillants' rather than the layman, it is an amazing reference material for anyone who seeks a deeper and more in depth view of the issue.

I doubt seriously these books will be recommended in the next few months by anyone, but that sad soon to be fact should not dissuade you from at least looking at the former book I've suggested. And of course, I wish yr husband every success in this battle he's decided to wage.

@SR I did a search for some books and already found the first one you mentioned. I'll definitely read that one. Thanks

Well, he quit drinking (without any medical help) almost five months ago. So that wasn't a real big problem. The problem is to cope with reality and to find some rest, to not overreact in (at least for me) normal stress situations. To get that nobody is perfect and never will be. Stuff like that is it that he has to work on.

Oh, I see. Should depression be a part in this matter, I'll make one more recommendation....."darkness visible" by William styron. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darkness_Visible_(memoir)

Best!

This made me giggle.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/i ... -1.2417370

The city hall spectacle following Mayor Rob Ford's crack-smoking confession became an even more bizarre sideshow Wednesday, with the appearance of a 71-year-old WWE wrestler challenging the mayor to an arm wrestle, and Ford blowing kisses to media as he escorted children through the offices for Take Our Kids to Work Day.

Outside the municipal headquarters, protesters wrote chalk messages on a wall urging Ford to resign. Inside, an agitated Ford supporter wearing a red sweatshirt interrupted a councillor's media scrum to give a fiery defence of the mayor.

But the appearance of WWE hall-of-famer, The Iron Sheik, carted into the building by wheelchair, brought a truly circus-like atmosphere to city hall.

"I want to see Mr. Ford," The Sheik shouted during a media scrum, saying he had "no respect" for the mayor.

"I just want to know: Is he a real man, or no?"

Aided by an assistant, The Sheik said he would "absolutely" put Ford in his signature "Camel Clutch" chin-lock, given the opportunity.

'What kind of mayor is he?'
"The man eats the cheeseburger and smokes crack. What kind of mayor is he?" he went on.

The semi-retired wrestler, who is in town for a roast event, extended an invitation for the mayor to meet him for an arm wrestle in Ford's office.

"What kind of role model is he for the Toronto city?" he said.

The Iron Sheik was asked multiple times by city hall security to keep his voice down.

"That's my voice. You want me to change my voice. I can't change it," he replied, before being asked to leave because he was too loud.
The Iron Sheik isn't the first pro-wrestling legend to challenge the mayor to a physical feat of strength. In August, Hulk Hogan lost to Ford in an arm wrestling match.

OMG. This story doesn't stop...every time I turn on the radio or read the news, something else emerges about this goofball.

Watch this vid..

Rob Ford has been caught on a new video staggering around an unknown living room ranting gibberish and acting wildly. ... Toronto Mayor Rob Ford pauses as he speaks to the media at Toronto City Hall November zoom ... The target of the mayor's anger is not in the room and is not known to the Star.

The Star has obtained video of Mayor Rob Ford where he appears to be in a state of extreme agitation. The context in which it was shot is unclear, but his language and mannerisms clearly indicate he's angry.

I really dislike that this potato exists.

He's a Chris Farley character come to life. AND ISN'T ACTUALLY FUNNY BECAUSE HE'S REAL.

I finally did my presentation today at this waves in science and engineering reunion and now I can finally relax. Beautiful place they chose (Huatulco). And it's low vacationing season so hotel was cheap and beaches have not been crowded. I totally recommend this place, from what locals have told me, most tourists come from Canada.

47 years old and music comes close to food and water, but never had a decent sound system. Woke up, rolled over to my phone and put on Haydn from my prone position in the other room though a new denon amp/receiver and klipsch speakers. Heaven.

I have a friend/co-worker that does that... but I think she goes to the one in Lake Merritt and you're where - Vallejo?

She posts pics all the time so I can leer from the safety of my armchair... :hehe:

They also have it in San Rafael not far from where I work but I've never seen them out. I think they go out pretty early when the Bay is calmest? :hs:

I understand it is a helluva workout.
