Benitez? I dunno. Mourinho may even be offered the England job?? Jose will have to wait to go to Utd. Maybe the Qatar Investment Authority are buying Villa this year and Mourinho is their number 1 target? =
sigh :cona:
Mourinho has said that the only national squad he'd manage is Portugal and that he'd say no to England.
And from the looks of this season, if teams want to compete, they need some Qatari whacko providing the goods. Hopefully things will come to balance with the FFP.
Fabrice Muamba today... god damn. Thankfully, he's alive and apparently stable. Good decision, calling off the game. The looks of distress on the players was very frightening.

Critical I think. The stable comment was a load of rubbish. It is very shocking. 23 years old.

Yup, I've just read the statement in Bolton's website. 'Critically ill'. Poor guy.
Some acquaintances were suggesting that maybe it's a racial thing, since a big portion of the best-known cases have been black players; even though that data is flawed (deaths during matches or trainings are somewhat common everywhere), I thought maybe the diet during the firsts years of life might affect their hearts... you know, growing up in poor African countries. It still doesn't explain why medical tests seem unable to predict these events.
We'll see how this goes. Shocking. Brought back the image of Puerta. The first time I saw it I actually cried, it was terrible.

I know this thread is supposed to be about english football but I'm going to hijack it for a second to salute Messi who tonight broke the world record from 1925 for most scored goals in a season in Spain. He's scored 73 goals this season what a maniac

He's unbelievable. He broke the record for goals in any league in Europe (50; the previous was 47) and now has the most goals in a season in Europe (72). That's 72 goals in 58 games. Oh, and 28 assists. And he still has 2 games left.
Cristiano Ronaldo has 45 goals and only 1 game left. 59 goals in 54 games.
Crazy stats. They surely look like unbreakable records. The fact that they're playing for teams in Spain makes it even more incredible (if we assume that in Ukraine or Sweden it's easier to score.)
But on Wednesday evening I'll be going to my first Copa Libertadores game. It's the equivalent of the Champions League for South America. Before there was a FIFA Club World Cup, there was an Intercontinental Cup between the winner of the Champions League and the winner of the Copa Libertadores (since both competitions are the ones with the best football, by far.)
It's going to be Unión Española (from Chile) vs. Boca Juniors, round of 16. Boca won 2-1 the first leg in Buenos Aires. I'm basically going to watch Juan Román Riquelme, the most iconic player in the history of Boca Juniors (yes, even more so than Maradona himself.)
Just a little history: Boca Juniors is one of the most successful clubs in the world. It has won 18 international titles (world record shared with A.C. Milan), such as 6 Copa Libertadores and 3 Intercontinental Cups (against Borussia Mönchengladbach [1977], Real Madrid [2000] and A.C. Milan [2003]).

Great day for the neutral yesterday. Loads of people banging on over here about it being the best league in the world. I don't think so. La Liga is far better. For excitement it takes some beating though.

Yeah, it was a great last fixture. I do agree with those who say it's the best league in the world: teams competing for everything (title, Europe and relegation) until not only the very last day, but until fucking injury time. La Liga is far more predictable and their referees are the blindest. Only in Brazil I've seen worse referees.
I spent most of the 2nd half jumping at home and screaming obscenities at the TV. When Dzeko scored the 2-2 I said 'shit. we're fucked.'
And fucked we were.
Deservedly. What a poor season. The team needs some serious revamping. I don't see United being champions next season unless something BIG happens during the transfer window.
United's been lucky to tie/win games for years, so it finally came back to bite them. Plus I don't think Johnny Evans and Rio cut the mustard right now. I don't like City buying the title but damn what a great ending that was. I thought for sure they were done.
