Regarding Dave, yes i know his sense of humour but i really missed the enthusiasm about the new album, - all that what makes a band "live". It is not just another album, it is a new one after 8 years...and after a lot of work, relapse ...

Maybe he really crashed with Perry's way of handling this matter. Though he should know the guy already.

another angle might be .. well when i put out a record the last thing i want to do is praise it and talk about how great it is .. this is the time i think dave might want to be quiet and see how the album lands with people .. where as i am sure perry just wants to talk it up like a salesman .. janes should always just let the music do the talking .. and if its got nothing to say this time so be it

GGU was still very artistic :noclue:

The relapse seemed very artistic.

Somewhere between 98 and 2001 is when things changed.

I think i blame Coachella. They handed them a suitcase full of money and Perry's businessman brain went "hey, i can do these giant gigs and not much else"

The Relapse was a tour, not an album (and Kettle Whistle wasn't a real album).

GGU was a good album, though uneven...and should have been released a couple of years after the Porno debut; 3 years was really pushing it.

In the 90s, there was still some fuel left in the tank; once the new millenium hit, it was all over.

definitely, in the 90's the magic was intact, Ritual, two great Porno albums, One Hot minute, Spread, the Almighty Relapse tour....then deterioration of talent set in

I agree, Perry was still in his 30's for all of that. Getting older blows. Obviously they could have made better decisions and not have wasted so much time, but a rich man in his 40's and 50's has the odds against him when it comes to relating to a younger audience.

Perry settled down after Relapse. Found religion. Had a family. Quit the hard stuff. Jubilee was pretty good but presented in the wrong venues. Had that been a theater tour like Relapse I think it would have been a lot better. The opening with Kettle Whistle was amazing. But all in all, definitely the beginning of the end of the real Jane's vibe.
