Or unless you're still signed to Capitol records, who likes to fucker up everything they do.

The Dandy Warhols left the label because they fucked with all their records too.

Make a good album, keep expectations in check and enjoy the returns on personal expression that you're lucky enough anyone wants to pay attention to. It's simple. Plus you get to keep whatever money you make. Shit, you can even license a song or two.

Unless you're lazy, overly-cautious and entitled.

That wasn't his call. On last week's Dark Matter (while Dave was gone) Todd talked about how much Dave hates TNO because they label stepped in and forced the sound into a particular direction.

If Dave is left to make his own record, i think it will end up sounding just fine. From Rhimorse and Spread, to the instrumentals for TGEA that we heard (and even Ritual and NS where the band had full creative control), it's pretty clear that the dude can write an amazing sounding record when some label asshole doesn't poke their nose in.

I absolutely think if he lived here he would definitely record a different vibe

when has dave NOT had a lou reed vibe? black fingernails, rocknroll, reissue of metal machine music, the bed, venus in furs .. one thing i can say about dave is he never really embraced the la metal scene style .. no glam make up and teased hair like axl rose, altho he does like his spandex  I think cali suits them just fine .. i don't think the ocean would be in their music in NYC ... not that there is no ocean .. its just you are more likely to see a barge with a high rise full of nyc trash than an earth loving surfer in that ocean ..

really? he seems to have embraced it for the past 10 years at least. Plenty of eyeliner to go around.

Yeah but I think he's got the eyeliner on to be "dark" or whatever. But hell he is in his mid to late 40's if the man wants to dress like he shops at hot topic that's all him.

Sure, I guess it would be swell if Dave released a solo album. Nevertheless, I'd like to see that energy go into another JA record.

Dave may crave the freedom to do what he wants, and I can't fault him for that, and maybe some of the things he wants to do are pretty cool, but it seems like his music tends to get produced to death. What I want to hear is that instrumental music from the JA in the studio clips. I don't want it tinkered with, and I don't want it to have vocals. If that's part of a Dave solo album, and there's more stuff involved of similar quality, then yeah, a Dave solo album would be nice. It just really needs to be something new and different, not something that fits in some stupid commercial rock mold. Make it an outlet for the weirder, more experimental stuff. Don't try to use it as some crass bid to maintain or increase rock stardom.

Would love to hear it, Dave has a surprisingly good voice. I'm surprised he doesn't do more backing vocals at shows (he pretends to do them while the backing track is playing for the ETTL chorus).

Now that TGEA is out I'm ready for Jane's to break up again. I'd like Dave, Steve and Eric to do something. Fuck a solo album.
