It's a good listen.

It's not classic Jane's, but I didn't expect it to be and it turned out better than I thought it would. With 5 being average, I give it a 6.5/10 but it's moving closer and closer to a 7/10 with each listen. Their sound has changed with the times, and that's fine by me. I won't burn a house down over it not being Ritual pt. 2.

I still like Strays better than TGEA.

dear gawd i too give it a 6-7 it was much better then i thought it would be but it's like standard radio rock these days...it doesn't do anything for me and i wouldn't buy it...hell after a bunch of listened i even deleted it..that's 2 janes records in a row i didn't like enough to buy....now i am gonna explain something to you...tastes are different from person to person..like for example..i don't like mushrooms or wine...lots of people love wine...it tastes like rotting fruit to me...when i think of the new janes record and strays one word pops in my head...generic ..it has no soul to me..nickleback could make songs like this...now granted maybe people like nickleback as well...i don't...now you could go "oh you are just a hater"...but janes and the pixes are my two fav bands ever...and when strays came out i was stoked on it for a week...i had almost forced myself to like it because how much i loved janes...but after that week i found i didn't really want to listen to it anymore and clued in i was kinda blinded by my love of janes and that strays pretty much sucked ass...now as i said a give it a 7 the first time i heard it...and it dropped to a 6 after repeated listens...some people it grew and they rated it higher...now to me a 6 is a D it's alright i wouldn't panic to turn it off if it hit the radio...but i wouldn't choose to hear it...for me 7 is fair..i would still wouldn't buy it but may have a song i like alot ...8 is good i would buy and enjoy listening to it...and so on...for me xxx was a 9 ns a 10 and rit a 10 ..and the first porno a 9...perry has put out 4 records i would say are fucking great...he doesn't owe me more i didn't expect 4! ..i judge each and every offering to my tastes and tgea doesn't match my tastes...it does nothing i haven't heard before better by other bands 20 years ago...it doesn't sound like janes ( nor would i expect them too they are old...fuck perry is 50+) so while some enjoy a blind love of bands from first love till they break up it doesn't work like that for me....there i gave you way more of my time then you deserve

I'm pretty much on the exact same page as you here...except I'd give the first Porno album an 8 and I love mushrooms and wine.

I like it more after a few listens, I'd say 1/3 of the album I really like, 1/3 is just OK and 1/3 is kind of crap generic rock. So, like Artemis I'm too in between to vote. It's not total crap, so I guess I could vote yes.

Jane's is not the kind of band that I really get excited about in the last 10 years or so. My tastes have moved on. Maybe if all I cared about was rock music, I'd like it more.

the last three songs sound a little like old janes and i wouldn't be too embarassed to have them on for friends

underground, ETTL and irresistable force have strays appeal to those who can block out the lyrics and singing style annoyances and utter mundaneness

the rest make me wanna punch rich costey in the face for allowing such crap on the record .. especially that coldplay song

Thanks for taking the time I wouldn't say it was generic, I think the majority of Strays is far more generic than this. And blimey, if you love the pixies then you have to love Words Right Out of My Mouth. It is Planet of Sound.

I just get the impression you were clinging onto a hope of Janes 1.0 What would we have got with Eric on this record? I think they've all moved on from NS and RDLH musically. There are definitely more polished P4P style songs in there, Curiosity and Ultimate are two for a start. I think this band has done what we all love about them 25 years ago. You won't get that back. If you want that, you need to find a fledgling band. A band that is young and different. I was similar with STRAYS. I wanted to like it but pretty much from the word go it really didn't go down well. And I can't stand Nickelback either, and I don't think in a million years they could have written TGEA. From your rating's it is an 8 for me, they have redeemed themselves from the shite they put out in 2003.

It's funny because I compared it to Pearl Jam's punkier stuff, and when I thought about it I realized I was thinking of Do the Evolution, which always reminded me of something I couldn't put my finger on...which I now realize is Planet of Sound.
