Creep recommended BOA like the day before Buffet sent the stock up.

In regards to the OP, the albums only been out 2 days. That's pretty early for predictions.

The Cult's spent the last few years exploring basically all these options and discovering it's a losing proposition.

In 2006 when they reunited for the half dozenth time and toured, they hooked up with InstantLive, who produced CD-R sets of that night's show right off the soundboard. So right after the show for about $20, you could buy a copy of that show or order it later off the website. Years later, InstantLive is still trying to sell off the extra stock from that tour for $5 a show off their website. In more recent tours, they've tried selling shows burned to USB thumb drives as well as vinyl "limited edition" EPs of new music all sold at shows. Production problems, too much or no stock depending on the show, just a whole host of issues have dogged them at every turn trying to get unique "fan-oriented" products available at shows. Now a lot of their problems can be traced straight to the band themselves and who they have working for them and producing their stuff. Not every band can be a Trent Reznor and make the fan experience as involving and satisfying. In fact, it really seems there's very few bands that can or more accurately *want* to do so.
It could also be a case of Ian Astbury's massive ego believing his band's music and legacy are worth much more than they truly are to a lot of people.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a pretty big Cult fan. I saw them three times in 2008 alone and the shows were terrific. Just bought that Omnibus edition of "Love" not to long ago, too.

But selling CD-Rs of your shows or USBs or "capsule EPs"...that shit is for the diehards and no one else.

They're a journeymen band at this point. Irrelevant, but still good at what they do. So do some tours, sell some t-shirts and make a new album for your core fanbase if you're feeling inspired, so long as your present material is able to stand next to the output of your glory days (the way songs like "Rise" and "Citizens" do)

And tell the guitar player's wife to get off that fucking show with Etty Farrell. That move alone might convert the Jane's diehards.

55% of sales are in on HitsDailyDouble and TGEA is at number 28 with 5,632 sold. It'll go up, but a bit scary...

If it's anything under 15k, it's abysmal. 15K is bad, but passable. If they get under that I think Capital will drop them. They needed at least 20k to be respectable. Hell Bush's new album sold over 20,000 opening week and they self-released it, Jane's had a major behind them. Bush's current radio single is a big hit though and Jane's is getting modest airplay.

My guess is that the label already made their money when JA re-signed with a 360 degree contract. That's why we've seen so many product tie-ins. The album can stiff, but Capitol still gets its cut from the LG promotion and the credit card-sponsored shows, etc. The probably even get a percentage of merch and licensing. Welcome to the new major label reality.

And that's a top 10 rock album. Perfect example of why many established bands don't put any effort into new music anymore. Still, I don't trust that site's sales figures. Wait 'til Billboards numbers come out later this week.

It's cool -- no one listens to rock anymore, anyway:

I stand by my prediction of #1 rock album released. #3 At worst overall. We sell this band short because they've let us down.

I think they are capable of 150,000 albums sold the first week.

You just took what i said out of context. I also said immediately after that Irresistable Force was not the single that would make those numbers happen.

I think i said something like 37-42 thousand. i'd have to look though.

My full comment:

I just don't think Irresistible Force is the single that is going to do it in today's mediocre buttrock climate.

Maybe if they had another straight rocker like Just Because tearing up the charts, but the space banging song seems a little over the heads of the typical Godsmack/Nickelback listening public who only buy records if they "rawk"

Final first week sales are in, and they're far better than the 55% estimates were. It debuted at No. 11 with 24,195 copies sold. Respectable showing by Jane's.

Not bad considering Capital didn't do anything to promote it.

Which isn't surprising since the band took 8 years to make 10 songs.

The only major store I've seen it in stock has been Best Buy and it's buried on the general release shelves and there's only like 3 - 4 copies.
