The LOLLA That Never Was

#1 Post by Tyler Durden » Sun May 26, 2024 4:53 pm

I’m two episodes into the Story of Lollapalooza docu-series and am really enjoying it. I’m shocked that they devoted entire episode to the first year (it still doesn’t get enough credit) and pleasantly surprised that the second episode was entirely focused on the festival’s heyday. I’m now bracing myself for the fall from grace in the third and final episode.

Aside from this series making me wax nostalgia about seeing Jane’s on the first tour when I was just 16, it got me thinking about how I used to daydream back in those days of potential Lolla lineups…

I’m assuming some of you did this as well. Did you have dream Lolla rosters? Were there any up and coming “alternative” bands you wanted to see tour with the festival and then it never came to fruition? Fan or not, I think we’re all kind of curious to have seen what Nirvana headlining in ‘94 would’ve looked like.

For me, I really wished these bands had been on festival during the first 4-5 years…

Concrete Blonde
Ween
Pixies
Danzig
R.E.M. (I know, they were HUGE by then)
Faith No More
White Zombie
N.W.A.
Sisters of Mercy
The Stone Roses
The Replacements
Type O Negative
Slowdive
Galaxie 500

My ideal late 90's Lolla lineup would go something like this:

Dick Dale
The Cramps
Kings X
Gavin Friday
Bauhaus (reunion)
Talking Heads (reunion)
Nine Inch Nails
Prince
