Last Chance to Do It Right

#1 Post by Tyler Durden » Sun Apr 07, 2024 6:41 am

I feel like with Jane’s, this next year or two marks the last chance for the band to do it right. Sure, the band in some half baked form could always exist and continue to crank out the same old setlist on tour with whoever on bass and/or guitar, but I want more.

The mishandling of the Porno For Pyros reunion has me extremely skeptical. The new songs should’ve been released together with an accompanying physical release (with multiple variants). As well, their two studio albums also should’ve got some form of reissue treatment, even if it was just the albums on black vinyl and one colour variant, respectively. This sort of thing is easy money these days.

With Jane’s, they need to do this with the launch of the new ailbum. It should be on various formats with different variants. And if Warner was smart, they’d reissue Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual in some form that’s interesting (expanded and/or vinyl variants).

Before anyone says there is no market for this, Warner/Rhino has released multiple album box sets of the Replacements, as well as colour vinyl variants and numerous Record Store Day exclusive releases. I’m hard pressed to believe that the Replacements fanbase is any bigger than Jane’s. The Triple X debut should also be reissued (whoever owns it now). There’s got to be a market for a new vinyl reissue and variants. Beggars Banquet is about to reissue old Death Cult material on two different vinyl versions…so if there’s a market for that, there’s a market for a Triple X reissue.

I just don’t get how this band and their management have dropped the ball, time after time after time.

It absolutely is the last chance. And no they couldn’t just always exist. This isn’t 20+ years ago. Perry is 65 and clearly looking and performing like it. Hes mentioned only having 5 years left to wrap this all up properly.

There is zero market for this for Porno. We should be so lucky to get an amazing tour with several vintage sounding songs from Janes as well.

I’d be shocked if any of this happens. They’ve already done all of the reissues and odds collections they’re probably ever going to do.

We’ll hopefully get a physical release of this Janes record, and a reasonable tour to go with it. And then who knows. Maybe another round of touring before wrapping it all up?

P4P faced a lot of challenges that do not apply to Jane’s. They’ll be fine.

I personally don’t give a fuck about reissues. All I care about is the new album with some interesting interviews that give us insight into the last two years or so. A great tour, which is looking more and more likely, would be the gravy. Essentially, I just want to experience a new album cycle from the classic band.

The Sterling Spoon vinyl box set is selling for quite a bit of money these days.

Strays and even TGEA on vinyl fetch some money as well.

Ritual got a rocktober 2xlp release that sounds pretty good.

Also, there was the huge (and uninteresting) Perry Farrell box set that was released on vinyl.

So, yeah, there's still interest in JA vinyl. And the Perry box proves that they're aware of this

I really want remasters — was listening to the remastered version of TEN and I really like stuff like that

And I really really hope Jane’s does whatever they do next like all the other bands of a certain age do things.

Porno was like a weird anomaly—I don’t see Jane’s getting so mismanaged

I hope

Lower expectations so you don't end up disappointed again.

There is no reason to list off 50 wants when it's likely that a 9 song album and some festival dates are all you will get.

I was actually thinking yesterday that the record will probably be 9 songs and that I’m gonna wish there was at least one more on it.

I definitely think they will do a tour to support it but it’ll be short like faith no more’s tour in 2015 when they put out their record

Reissues to who??

A new album with the og crew is actually more than I could have ever hoped for. That alone would be beyond my expectations. The Porno shows and released tunes have me full of hope. It’s been amazing.
Time for the main event

Playing Evolution Fest in St. Louis late September. Most excited I’ve been for a Janes show in 20+ years!

I just saw on Instagram that BODY COUNT of all bands are doing limited variant vinyl editions of older albums. Some signed

If they can do that

Please

Jane’s camp … do things like that

Please

There is absolutely no excuse for Rhino/Warner (along with Perk’s help) not putting a soundboard recording or two from the late 80s or early 90s on vinyl for RSD.
