Martyn has bailed on the Porno tour

Martyn was definitely cast out and scapegoated by Perry more than once. They didn’t seem to truly patch it up until a few years ago. I imagine doing the 3 gigs and the new songs was very healing, and it probably was all he really needed to do with them to get some closure and resolution on the whole thing.

I've no insight into the man, but didn't he say in full transparency when they first came back together that it was a test for him to do those shows and see how it goes? I recall those tweets pretty clearly indicating that he wasn't all the way in.

Sure, water has passed under the bridge, but I can see how a tour cancellation at the 11th hour might take steam out of his sails (though who know knows which came first, the tour being pulled or Martyn bailing). I love his work, and I wouldn't say he's been prolific over the years, but he has worked with some proper pros though over that time (Lineman, Gahan), so I can see how a shitshow like this (where band members find out about tours online) can be jarring for someone who has/wants a 'quiet' life.

Am gutted, but very far from surprised.

FWIW, I’m not going to share or speculate anything else. I know little to begin with, and I don’t want to potentially misrepresent anything.

I will say however that while I was excited to see Martyn, I’ll be perfectly happy if they do get Watt. He was already in the band when I first saw them. I actually met Watt outside that show. I was an annoying 16 year old kid following him around downtown St. Louis asking him a barrage of questions and fanboying out. He kept saying “I’m just some old punk rocker, nobody special.”

He was kind to humor me as much as he did.

Watt is as real as it gets. And I know Peter absolutely adores him and they remain very close. He’s a brother and I’d be so excited to see him play with them.

The only time I've seen Watt solo, he walked thru the front door of the club when it was his set and walked by saying "IF YOU AINT GOT NO DIME, YOU AIN'T GET NO ROCK!". Seemed like a complete character and knew instantly why Pete loves him.

I saw Watt in a small venue a few years ago. He arrived by the front door like anybody. I walked to him saying "hello mike, i"m so pleased to meet you in person". In my memories, he gave me a hug and behaved like if we knew each other for years. I finished carrying his bass as his leg was hurting him.
The show was fantastic.

Main Steam Stop Valve rolled through Tallahassee last month, and I got the pleasure of seeing Watt, Mike Baggetta, and Stephen Hodges do an awesome set. I got speak to him briefly after the show, and he was so incredibly gracious and like Nestos said, made you feel like you'd already been friends for years. It's always a treat when artists you've listened to and follow for years end up being that way, and one awesome memory I'll never forget.

Yeah, he's consistently been walking with a crutch lately and performing sitting down. Sincerely wondering if that will work with the P4P shows, really hope so...

If so, the story was kind of written, I suppose...

Actually, it was surprising to see@ both bands were planning stuff and apparently both recording last year.

In the end, P4P goes pschitt (but I'm sure pete will make the farewell a hell of a tour!) and JA will possibly explode as usual before anything cool happens.

At least we'll have Agua... and a few more songs (if we are in luck)

I hope it’s Watt. He’s a legend and as real as it gets, and he was great in P4P. I’ll never forget how perry dressed him up in some crazy gown bathrobe thing one of the times I saw him with porno. The dude has always been one to just put on jeans and a tee shirt and come out and play his ass off. We all were thinking that night that he must be laughing his ass off but going along with it because perry was hosting quite a circus at the time. I’ll miss Martyn tho. He really is porno. Also when I met him with Bicycle Thief at the Knitting Factory in NYC many years ago, he was as nice as could be.
