I hope Dave is there for the shows in May.

I don’t think the band is hiding anything.. they just don’t know if he’ll be up to the task. I’m not sure Dave even knows tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fingers crossed

What's the last official song the band released with all 4 core members I think it might have been Ripple. Jerry Garcia said himself it's a great cover then next thing I knew Jane's broke up.

Last new song maybe (if a cover counts as a ‘new’ song). But we did get studio versions of Whores and Chip Away on the NINJA ep.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they are reappraising embrace the darkness and I’ll protect you from those sessions too

Wont be surprised if those songs get reworked or finished

I’m having flashbacks to 09 when on the NINJA tour there was this mini jam in the middle of Pigs in Zen that sounded awesome and I had such fucking high hopes 🤦‍♂️

This little jam at 2:14 in

I loved that part too .. wonder if if was ever part of a new song?

I think we’ll get: True Love, The ultimate redemption, Kettle whistle.

Hope we get an album tho

That would be incredible if they did that one. I told Stephen they should lol.

I always thought that little name was part of Embrace the Darkness or I’ll Protect You.

It SEEMED pretty thought out…

Unless it was some jam they worked up at sound check

Either way

I’m desperate for more

I feel like I’m the only one that really disliked that little jam. It sounds like U2 to me. Not Janes at all.

During the Xiola days we were speculating it was embrace the darkness- Sonny asked Eric and he said it was something they came up with during rehearsals for ninja.

I do think the guitar pattern is similar with different notes though when comparing both snippets

Ya know -that could be true, I think I latched onto that 45 seconds in a desperate attempt to believe we’d get something new.

And I may only like it because it was something new

Anyone still have that minuscule clip of embrace the darkness that was floating around?

“Embrace the darkness” Give ’em a chance. “Embrace the darkness;” It’s the boogieman, and he wants to dance! He wants to dance! Yeah dance!

Looks like a buncha Boss pedals and a Tube Screamer, so could definitely be Dave.

Yeh that looks just like Dave’s pedalboard. Two delays on the bottom right.

Agreed, it sounds like something off Great Escape Artist.

I don't really expect them to write anything that lives up to Jane's 1.0 but I'll still be excited to hear whatever they put out.

That sounds like Strays or the 'heavier' stuff from Satellite Party.

Self-conscious rawk :jasper:

How can sober, wealthy men in their 50s and 60s write songs that emulate their drug-addled 20s and 30s? I don't think it's possible.

They'd be better off writing gentler songs rather than attempting to recapture the harder sound of their youth, IMO.

Great news about Dave though :thumb:

I feel like that logic should only really apply to lyrics though, right?

1. Is that what people really want? Reminds me of when Motley Crue put out a song called "Sex" a few years ago, like anyone wanted to hear a bunch of 60 year olds in pleather singing about gettin' puss. I don't care if Perry writes songs about growing tomato plants in his backyard garden, as long as that's what he is passionate about at this point in his life. It's going to be far more real than if he tries to be what he THINKS the fans want, because as we all know... they are clueless about that.

2. Dave JUST got clean. So who knows.... maybe there's some of that wacky drug addict still there ready to play some weird shit. :noclue:

I was listening to True Love and I’m wondering how that morphs if it becomes a 3.0 song.

That song has real potential — Especially if Dave adds some real shimmery/delay stuff that floats around the Bass and Drums.

The lyrics —which I suspect would morph a bit —are later era Perry things, but I don’t mind. Perry seems to be more comfortable writing about generalities or bigger themes as opposed to focused events — maybe I’m reaching.

But if he wants to sing about the nature of true love, as opposed to a serial killer — in here for it

I don’t remember being turned off by any of the lyrics on TGEA, unlike Strays. There was nothing amazing in there, but it was fine.

I still don't see this unfolding in any healthy way. I'm not convinced DN is capable on any creative or physical level. We'll see soon
