True Love
How is it I come to the site to see what you all think of the new song, but then I have to post about it?

Lyrics are the weak link for me on first listen. Wonder if Eric could have veto rights over some of what Perry writes.
On my phone and can’t embed video.

Re: True Love
it was discussed quite a bit in the tour thread
I would say it was 75% positive with most saying it could use a little more work

Damn. And I looked for it. Delete this if need be.
Re: True Love
it probably should of been its own topic. that thread got a little derailed a bit with the dave vs josh vs troy argument.
pb got a great recording of it
it's the one the rolling stone article shows

Re: True Love
It’s still a work in progress- I genuinely don’t feel like they’ve come up with an actual guitar part for it yet. I really like the lyric “wading in the waters of true love.” It strikes an image in my head like slow divers and Summertime Rolls.
I also give it a pass that the bass idea has already been used for road because it was supposed to be a Janes song to begin with. I think they should use the guitar part he did on that song for it as well

Re: True Love
It’s being used on pretty much every major site- stereogum, nme, consequence, blabbermouth etc. As far as I know it’s the the only vid of it so far on youtube

Re: True Love
- Nothing exciting, doesn't sound much different from Satellite Party's "Milky Ave" or "Awesome".
- I've always loved Janes because they didn't have cheap obvious love songs like this True Love.
- Comparing True Love to Summertime Rolls or I Would For You or even P4P 2nd album is pure blasphemy.
- Ok I'll be waiting for the studio version of True Love... but when music is good is good, live or studio. Nobody was saying "I will wait the studio version of Whores or Janes Says or City". 33 years to write a new piece, and is it True Love? Sorry to say but this band is too old and lost all inspiration left.

I don’t think this is entirely fair. There are obviously more songs, and they could be focusing on this one for a variety of reasons. One of which possibly being it’s a/the song that Josh co-wrote, so they’re playing it due to him being out there.Stickyfingers wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 1:23 am33 years to write a new piece, and is it True Love? Re: True Love
I agree - but we all get "too old". I'm in mid-50s, I can't/won't mountain bike the way I did in my 20s. Why would I risk breaking my wrist or back and putting undue stress on my wife and family?Stickyfingers wrote: ↑Thu Mar 09, 2023 1:23 amSorry to say but this band is too old and lost all inspiration left.
Perry is old enough to be a Zayde, and reading bedtime stories to his grandkids (which he doesn't have yet). Perkins is raising a teenager. Eric seems to be hanging on to the "art student" vibe - but he looks a bit too old for it.
I'm assuming they're in it for a bit of moola, and to heal some old wounds. I think Jane's 2023 is a strategically smart move, and the music they create will reflect this time and period. I can live with that.
Re: True Love
I didn’t like it at all, but two of my younger sisters liked it. To me, it sounds like half a demo.
Someone sent me a link to an article and as I saw the video I wondered if one of you had recorded it. Nice to know one of you did.
Now I wonder if they’re coming to Chile with Eric or not. I didn’t even know he was back.

Re: True Love
I think it’s innocent and honest. If it were on XXX, people would love it.
It probably sounds most like GGU-era P4P though.
Overall it’s much more encouraging than I expected.

Re: True Love
Oh, that’s cool! Thanks.
By the way, I finally got to reading your book a few weeks ago when I was on the beach, it was a really good and comfy read. Terrific job.

Re: True Love
Listened to it 3 times but don't want to hear it again. TGEA was the same, about 1 to 3 listens each song and never listened again. The vocal is the weak link repeats "true love" too many times and doesn't go anywhere. Maybe they can add some parts to make it better in the studio. The vocal needs to be redone.
Re: True Love
I felt this way at first, but it has grown on me. I’m also assuming the more complex and dynamic stuff is also being written, and this is just the short, sweet song it is. If this was all they ever released, yes it’s disappointing. But as a piece of a larger picture, I’d be just fine with it.lucio wrote: ↑Fri Mar 10, 2023 6:02 amListened to it 3 times but don't want to hear it again.
