I like how the entire song is kind of one mood and vibe. And it also has an instrumental chorus/interlude thing ala summertime.

I'll post 'Then She Did' later, along with any other scraps.

I like the "new" version of Kettle Whistle. I always thought the post-1997 version's transition between the quieter parts and the rawk parts was too jarring. True Love is clearly a work in progress. As it is, it's good but the lyrics and Perry's delivery needs work. I'd move it up as a main set closer and have a couple upbeat songs for the encore (JS, Chip?). I have to say, this is a really solid (and long for Janes) setlist with interesting pacing, probably to give Perry some breathing room between groups of songs. Josh fits well on some songs, not so good on others.

I agree.Stickyfingers wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:00 amSome old basslines style from Polar Bear (Leader, Lick) or Eric solo stuff with Kind Heaven /Satellite Party vocal on it, plus some Josh guitar effect
I don't understand how people get excited about this
The bass/drums sound like Averys band from the 90s which is ok but not Jane's 1.0 which is what I'm looking for.
The vocal sounds like a lower pitch version of the track I posted earlier with Perry on it_ Zeds Dead "Blink".
The guitar sounds a little like Wishing you well by Porno for Pyros but better with the effects.
Not really Janes, but a mix of their post Jane's projects.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
I think it’s cool they chose to go with something understated and soft rather than the last two times with another soulmate and end to the lies.
Shows that Janes is dynamic with where they can go song wise- my guess is it’s still being worked on and that they are still deciding who will react to it the best

Josh adds some value to Kettle. I’m sure I’ll regret the compliment when I hear his Three Days solo.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
It’s kind of a wicked game not having Dave on a new EA Jane’s song.

Thanks for the vids, phenobarb_bambalam , great quality!
I really liked Kettle Whistle!
On 2nd listen, True Love sounded better to me, but definitely missing something as others have said. I think this could be a song that is better on the album with some mixing.
Unrelated to the music...I like Perry's stage outfit and hair! I've always liked PF's sartorial flair.

I keep listening to it and —
It’s like when I was 16 I got a P4P bootleg CD ( well it was an ice cube CD ) months before the album and it had 5 songs on it for Lollapalooza 1992
I listened to those 5-6 songs over and over and over, you knew the CD would sound different — but those early performances had the essence of it
I can see this song filling out and once the guitar parts are finalized I can really see it shining
Perry lyrics are very earnest now, but this song has no weird modern references or slang. It’s actually very exciting
Also hard to to think he’s probably referencing Casey?

I keep hearing Land Down Under in Perry’s vocal melody.

I had that very same CD.. I was also 16. In fact i still have it.

I had that CD my freshman year of college, spring time. Castaic Lake show i think?? 'This year is an election year, don't forget to vote, but much more importantly don't forget to keep on fucking'..Perryisms never die! I can't believe I just remembered that. I think he said that right before Pets that show.eye wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:02 pmDiabolik wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 3:54 pmI keep listening to it and —

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
You're thinking of Suck on This, which was another boot CD that predated the 1st album. Dumb guesses at titles from the company like "Put up a Mambo". That was the first boot I ever bought, and it was just before the album came out, so I knew Pets from the radio already but otherwise brand new stuff. Good times.bman wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:10 pmI had that CD my freshman year of college, spring time. Castaic Lake show i think?? Completely agree- his solo on ocean size is great. He’s going to get better as he does more shows too

Hype wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 11:44 amYes, but it needs to be the right kind. I don't want to hear any more songs where Perry goes full Bono. This one's interesting because he sticks to the lower register for the most part. There is something missing, but it's hard to nail down exactly what it is. I think, basically, it's not a "hit" song. There's no real hook. There's no energy. I'd have expected EA's line to come through a bit louder and heavier and drive the song forward a bit more. It might just be the recording that makes it harder to hear that part of the mix, though. Maybe a little slightly extended tribal-ish rhythm section breakdown would make it feel more like Jane's Addiction.Mescal wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:19 amYup, my thoughts too.eye wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:24 am
Anyway.. I like the vibe, rhythm section sounds great. The lyrics in the first verse are a little cringy. As someone mentioned it’s Ernest and genuine. It’s cool. My only criticism is Josh’s guitar parts add absolutely nothing to it. Just atmospheric fumbling.. kinda ‘poke and prey’ stuff. It’s sorely missing a top line… and Dave Navarros magic.
It's missing an explosion imo ...
Yeah, to get it to sound like Jane's I think it needs an energy buildup near the end like some faster tribal drums with Perry 1.0 type scream a couple lines over that, with Josh hitting some different notes than the rest of the song could finish it up.

Thanks a lot hokahey you just ruined the song for everyone.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Wow, that was so much better and more interesting than I was expecting. It reminds me of 100 Ways, Kimberley Austin and Bali Eyes, both musically and in the sweetness/innocence of the lyrics and vocal melody. Obviously Perry's vocal is a bit weak but it's at the end of the gig and the recorded version will be far better. I liked the vulnerability of it. Similar to I Would For You and Summertime Rolls, in that sense.
