JA insta wished him a happy birthday. They used a black and white photo again which got me real nervous before I read the caption
I feel the same way I did back when Weiland relapsed, and was doing shows fucked up, and I just kept waiting for the day the inevitable happened.

Every time they post a picture I think "Is this it?"

I saw Scott play seven months before he passed- he had a thousand yard stare for the entirety of the set, and completely missed my stationary hand for a high five (I was at the front of the stage). Two weeks later his guitar player OD’d

If Dave did relapse, I hope it’s best case scenario where he’s actually gone thru/getting treatment and is close to return. The post does seem encouraging at the very least

He already did. That's why we're talking about it.

is it not a long-covid ? :lolol:

every time a picture is posted on the internet, there is someone here that sees him dead... isn't it harsh ?

It's been (vaguely) interesting to see the recent Royal Machines postings on social media - as infrequent as they are, Dave has been absent from their line from photos posted last week and also a couple of months ago. While he hasn't played every show with them in the past, it's been close to that. Making basic assumptions, this adds further to the feeling that this isn't JUST falling out out of JA.

Give us a break, we all grew up in the 90s watching all the rockstars dying of heroin.

It kind of formed the basis of how we view the likely endgame of heroin use.

I'm sure there are plenty of happy stories about heroin use though, that we just happened to miss somehow.

Most of the people who frequent here are in their 40s or 50s.

A simpler time. With better music.

With that said, having my home filled with Apple products is pretty fantastic and I don't want to go back.

When you're young everything is damn fun and exciting. and you're sick of listening to older people talk about their great past times.

Idealized nostalgia is part of the human nature. It also seems that the music we prefer is the one we liked when we were teenagers (that's probably why many old timers are still hanging out around here). As much as there has been good music in every decade, the point is that most of the rest is really getting worse and worse, that's absolutely true.

There is still an incredible amount of amazing music being made today. What has mostly changed is how we find it and how we consume it.

True.

What's popular is pretty awful, but it's extremely easy to find new artists in a thousand other genres that are pretty fantastic.

For some reason I find it funny when people use the word consume when talking about listening to music

A friend sent me this link the other day, the journalist who posted it also writes for respected music blog The Quietus, whose end of year 'best of...' list is often the source of new listening:

https://twitter.com/KaptainKulk/status/ ... Ow_2Q&s=08

It's arguable that there has never been such a rich time for music. From what I understand, in the UK there is much less of a culture of going out to see live music (unless cover or tribute bands) than in the US. Last night though, I was out at a small club and had a completely joyful experience watching two bands I'd never heard before, and may not follow beyond, but it was reward enough witnessing people sharing the music they clearly got so much pleasure from crafting themselves (main act were Femme De, if you're interested).

This piece (by Neil Kulkarni) has a lot of truth in it: https://neilk.substack.com/p/the-best-o ... t-year-for

I honestly don’t think Jane’s a going to move forward without Dave.. and I’ve lost faith in Dave returning. I don’t see it happening. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seems like it’s been pretty positive between him and JA camp lately. JA account has been posting content including him a little more too

I think it's always just a public showing of support.

OF COURSE they want him back for this last run. They're trying to cheer him on to get better. It's what friends do.

Yeah, that’s good on their part for sure- I’d rather have it be cool than it be an embarrassing Van Halen spat

wonder what his plans are these days- hopefully he can record and still do his art
