Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Nice, now I won't regret the fact I decided not to go tonight. .. though I did check a couple times for cheap tickets without any luck. Plus I gotta get up early tomorrow (refurbished employee laptop giveaway, 1st come 1st served), so it wasn't hard to talk myself out of it. But yeah, hopefully Jane's keeps it going with Eric and I can catch them next year.
Oh, I'm late in the thread but here are my Janes-related shows:

Shame for the Portland people they don't do a club show. But that's probably a lot easier said than done.

I guess it's Billy who has laryngitis?

Perry says the mission is to save the world with Jane’s. One of the new songs is called “The Imminent Redemption.” No mention of Dave.

The silence on Dave is definitely eyebrow-raising, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are really trying to play it safe and not inadvertently make any promises regarding Dave's return, especially with how well everything is going on this tour overall. There could be a real possibility that they are as sincerely unsure about it as the rest of us are.CaseyContrarian wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 6:25 pmPerry says the mission is to save the world with Jane’s. Those quotes regarding Perry and Eric's current relationship left no margin for speculation. Wow. Regardless of what happens, the fact that they seemed to have mended their mutual fence as much as they have is very heartwarming.
Working with Avery again "has been, like, the rush of a lifetime," he says.
"I can't believe we're back on stage together. I look at Eric as a pillar in my life. He's such an amazing guy, amazing player. I just smile ear to ear when we're out there."
He and Avery formed what would grow into Jane's Addiction as the two of them in 1985.
"He would lay grooves down, I had my echo box and I would do improvisational poetry," Farrell says. "I look at him like people look at their children. I just can't believe the miracle right next to me."
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Honestly — I’m nervous Dave won’t return for whatever reason. I really want him there but it’s nerve wracking off out of all this he seems
Watching Klinghoffer play with the band this tour has me wondering if he might end up recording with the band
I get a sense Perry really isn’t waiting around forever

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
I'd be ok with another guitarist recording with them. It'd be their songs per se. I wouldn't be in the crowd thinking "oh Dave would have played that better" if that makes any sense. I'd still prefer Dave but yes I get the sense there's an urgency to record new music and tour while things are good. Part of that "good" being healthwise considering Perry is well into his 60's now.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Im guessing his publicist shot down any questions regarding Dave. For what it’s worth, he has been posting Janes content recently, and posted that he talked with Josh after a show so he is definitely in contact with the bandthoreau wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 7:03 pmThe silence on Dave is definitely eyebrow-raising, but I wouldn't be surprised if they are really trying to play it safe and not inadvertently make any promises regarding Dave's return, especially with how well everything is going on this tour overall. I bet if Dave is still out next year Josh will be stepping in since Tory will have Queens commitments.
Wild to read that article.. it almost reads like fan fiction considering everything that went down between them. It’s so crazy to think what this band was 10 years ago and what they are today

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
While some of the specifics have surprised me around this reunion, Perry and Eric getting back together hasn’t entirely. In the music industry, always expect the unexpected. Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only reunited the (real) Misfits after 33 years and played MSG. Anything is possible.
The Dave situation almost seems more “shocking” than Eric coming back, due to Dave being pretty loyal over the years (minus Panic Channel era). We’ve speculated everything from terminal illness to anything related to Taylor Hawkins’ passing. It just seems so weird, like Dave has already left the band or is on the brink of leaving. At this point, nothing would come as a surprise.
I look at the current lineup as a stop gap. But I don’t think I could deal with another tour without Dave. As cool as this tour has been, it’s still not exactly Jane’s (like when Eric wasn’t in the band). It’s a big no from me if we get Klinghoffer’s Addiction.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Is the SF show a go? I’m guessing yes????
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Yeh.. I’m not sure Dave’s that into music anymore tbh!? I really hope that’s not the case tho.
My guess would be he’s relapsed.. I really hope that’s not the case either.
Josh Klinghoffer? Noo way. As I’ve said before no Dave - no Jane’s. Same goes for anyone of them. Jane’s to me, is like Led Zep. You can’t replace anyone of them.
I really hope Dave comes back and they record together again. I suspect unless he’s in, it won’t happen.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Shit! We need to find a full clip of that!
Honestly, I’ve been skeptical of some of Perry’s public praise of Eric these past few months. I kind of thought that maybe things got patched up because Dave was on the outs or because of money or something. I know, it’s a cynical take. But seeing Perry cry over Eric in public on stage was a huge punch to the gut. That’s some real shit there. Really moving.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
i also read that they played then she did tonight
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Holt shit — inject that entire clip into my veins
As an aside I’m super annoyed these shows haven’t been as well documented as I’d hoped!
I still haven’t seen clips of Trip Away, No Ones Leaving and Obvious, and mother fucker I hope if they played Then She Did it was recorded.

Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
They did. Jesus fuck, they did.
It was fucking stunning, it really was. I was hopeful going in, but like an abused dog, always mindful of a kick - it'll come, but it's not here just yet.
I was holding out for KW, so there was a tinge of disappointment to have UtB pour over us. 'Whores' was stunning. I'll always love 'Had a Dad' and it's not been played to death over the years, so it was a nice add. The show really took off for me at that point. I thought 'Then She Did' might take the place of 'Three Days in the setlist', but it didn't. I honestly don't think I have heard 'Ted' sound that good in decades. I love Josh - have done for the best part of 20 years, since he was playing in PJ Harvey's band. He added to the 4-5 songs he played on. Most of all on Ted. I think.
Some credit to Corgi (or whomever negotiated terms for JA) - they didn't seem like an opener on the stage - the production, sound, set length....they all added up to the crowd getting into it more than with a typical opening act.
The moment in the clip was an odd one. I kept wondering whether it was Perry being a goon, but Eric's reaction ultimately made it clear it wasn't. I don't recall the exact words he said after the clip ends (the internet will), but it rounded out on the point of it being good to have made up after such a long time.
There was something good in all of the songs I've grown tired of hearing. 'Mountain Song' was BIG. Even JS sounded good - there was a fragility in Perry's voice that I haven't heard in a long time. It's one of the things that made me fall in love with his voice a million years ago; it was good to have it back for an instant. Perkins, EA and PF seemed genuinely pumped (even if a little awkward) when they were leaving the stage - they're in a good place...in a way that I can't I have ever seen. What a shame Dave hasn't been part of this. I hope to god he is at some point soon, but I can't say I spent the whole show missing him. Which feels blasphemous and odd to say, but. This is the most vital performance I have seen from them in a REALLY long time.
'Then She Did" was fucking spectacular. Even from a shit seat in a shit venue with a shit crowd, it was fucking majestic. To anyone on the fence about going to one of the remaining shows -GO!

That was so goddamn good I can hardly believe it.
Re: Official Spirits On Fire tour thread
Perry getting emotional. Wow. Wish they had been at this level way sooner. It’s apparent now that TGEA was made out of a sheer frustration “I’ll show you” mentality. He wanted to work with Eric all along
This tour is so cool- I hope Dave recognizes this and gets back on board next year. There is an opportunity for something special here
