Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
I thought they were fucking fantastic. I was shocked that Perry would still have something in the tank, but he does. The band were great, that's no surprise. The whole thing just started so strong from the first moment and (mostly) stayed there. There were a couple of lower points, mainly due to Perry's voice, but there was no cringing to be done. Non-stop smiles from all four of them throughout the set, and it was so good to see Martyn in the fold. It was interesting to watch him on the songs he wasn't involved with, but you could see him growing (not the right world) into them.
I saw the setlist at the start of the night and was irked by 1% being in there, but it worked - it actually worked really well (twat-Gilby notwithstanding). Given the numerous talking points throughout the night from people on stage addressing SCOTSU, rights, oppression, equality, etc., 1% actually seemed point and even appropriate. I was skeptical when they played JA songs at the festival in FL, but it made sense.
I'd only ever seen them once so had little frame of reference to compare to, but it took 30 seconds for me to feel that it was worth the travel. Quite a turnaround, given how risable Kind Heave (sic) Orchestra were. It'd be absurd if they don't play more shows. Surely the grins on stage point to that being the case...

Glad to hear that the show wasn't a disappointment.
The vids creep posted sound great! Thanks for that!

Can’t believe I’m watching videos of Perry that are cool. The band sounds tight and the keyboards actually add something.
I’m seriously wondering if they are going to do the Pumpkins tour. Dave and Chris haven’t even acknowledged it and Chris removed the band from his insta bio. I’m still going to to the Chicago show but I have no problem going again

Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
strange. something odd is going on with Dave. I get long covid but he couldn't show up for that one show and stand there for 90 minutes playing guitar.someguy wrote: ↑Fri Jul 08, 2022 6:13 pmCan’t believe I’m watching videos of Perry that are cool. if dave doesn't do the sp tour then i guess they can still play as jane's addiction with this band and throw in a couple p4p songs. sp fans probably would prefer jane's songs.

I think/feel the same every time I see a post on Instagram of what he's up to. Not suggesting there isn't something going on, but something about the whole situation (esp the SP tour) doesn't seem to add up. It feels like some form of announcement before the tour is inevitable.
Interesting about Chaney's bio...
Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
Along the lines of what everyone is discussing, why was Gilby there? Does this line up go on tour with the Smashing Pumpkins, playing P4P/JA songs with Gilby as Dave? I'd honestly be down for that.
Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
That is really something else watching Pete and Martyn play those songs again.
Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
I had the same vibe as pb. There were zero indications of inauthenticity from the beginning to end. By that, I mean JA always presents to me as a cover band of itself. PFP came off really fresh and bright in band disposition and musicianship. I couldn't help but feel myself falling into the old geezer fan trap that "they could do something new that's of value" mindset. Perk's presence made a huge impact when compared with the festival where he was replaced by a metronome. He was singing along to the songs. Martyn was amazing. Pete killed and was so animated on stage. I have never seen them but in vids and the ones I have seen, he's really reserved...not so here; he took confident ownership while maintaining his place in the ensemble. His solo in Tahitian Moon was channeling something otherworldly. My real surprise was PF. Maybe the PFP set is better suited to the limitations age and vox decay, but he sounded fantastic.
In reference to Starcrawler, the mix was horrible....vox buried, even the drums were hard to decipher so I was concerned about PFP. Not an issue; mix was great. All in all, I really dug them as an opener. Singer has a Courtney/Iggy vibe going and the more power chords the better for me. They filtered out to the patio after their set and they are just baby-faced kids. Kinda sweet

I liked the Rockville show more because of Pete and Nick combined guitars presented the show as more entertaining. Nick played the Porno For Pyros songs like a pro and I liked his sound effects instead of a fill in guy on keyboard. It was good to see Martyn back in the band but no one knows how long he will be in.

To add to the speculation about the fall - the JA page is posting a shit ton of content with Eric and tagging him.
Whoever runs the page also liked my sarcastic suggestion for a song they should play this fall - Embrace the Darkness

I haven't read anything into it, but it has struck me how many of the clips they've posted in recent weeks have had the EA feature prominently. To the extent that it seems almost strange, given history.Although there is a large part of me that would be delighted on some level if he did come back into the fold (and I don't see it happening...at all), there's just no integrity left there. Just a carcass.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 2:44 pmTo add to the speculation about the fall - the JA page is posting a shit ton of content with Eric and tagging him.
That's part of the beauty of the PFP thing right now...the way they're doing it feels credible and real in a way that I have not felt from JA for the best part of a couple of decades. It's why the smiles on stage counted for so much...that kiss....Martyn's tentativeness on social media to say that he's signed up for three shows and let's see where it goes...Perk's chest beating at the end of the set. Just feels oddly authentic. As already mentioned by SR

Pulling out some old PFP video since now they're back. Not Martyn here though.
Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
As good as Rockville and Belasco gigs were I don't think they've been able to come close to the Private Parts Hard Charger gig.
The freak dancers and Perry's painted face with two guitars jamming out their best but rarely heard song. Now that was a party.

Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
Some may call it blasphemy, but I consider that as part of the era when they were all still great. It wasn't until Jubilee that the cracks started to show. Even then, it was nit-picky criticisms.
Point being, nothing they could ever do now will compare to anything pre Jubilee. There's no point in even comparing it. But for modern Perry and Co., this was fantastic.

Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
I am shocked they continue to leave hard charger out of the set. I think it could have something to do with the time changes for the drummer to get right. Doesn't sound like it would be an easy song to play with so much quick changes. Or they just don't like the song. I remember the trouble Jane's had with Obvious on the tour with Eric.
Re: PFP - New official Instagram and Website
The drumming is simple. The song needs a clarinet, but I don't know the reason for its absence. The Private Parts opening has dueling guitar solos with Pete first followed by DN. I don't know if that is a big deal, but it worked really well. Gilby could have done that.
