Anybody hear read the book "Whores"? I was wondering if it's worth reading.

I thought it was a great read. Essentially, a well-edited oral biography of the Jane's Story.

Anyone know how to rip that stuff from there? Or does anyone have other digital copies available? I'd like to have it on my iPad. I got the original book, but also would like to have a digital copy.

Hope someone can help.

Its a really cool book. Basically a well organised collection of quotes and anecdotes

I enjoyed it, but finished it feeling quite empty and unsatisfied. It was incomplete in terms of what I expected, and wanted, after learning there would be a book on them.

I would really like an in depth book on Jane's. So much there.

Whores was great. The same guy also put out Lexicon Devil about The Germs and We've Got The Neutron Bomb about the shift from glam to punk in LA. Both books are styled the same way as Whores and are also great reads.

Whores was a collection of quotes and articles etc..Definately worth a few bucks. But not really 100% accurate time references.

It's an excellent read - a must if you're a Jane's/Porno/Psi Com fan imo.

It's by Brendan Mullen, who has written a lot of books on bands, including RHCP. "Brendan's Death Song" off the new RHCP is about Brendan (he died a year or so ago while finishing up his RHCP book). He owned some nightclubs in LA and helped bands like Jane's, RHCP, Fishbone, Thelonius Monster and others get on the map.

Wonderful book. Probably will be the only one of its kind, well, ever. I'm very sad that Brendan passed, because he really seemed to compile this stuff for all the right reasons. Between Whores and Sonny's EA interview, we have the most complete account of the JA that we loved (and lost) as we ever will.

It was a pretty rad book...all my friends talk about how crazy anthony kiedis was and how 'cool' scar tissue is, but I just tell them a story from whores and they get jealous haha. It's worth two reads. The stories about the PFP era is gold.

Brenden owned The Masque.

BTW, I can remember Sonny talking shit about Brenden and the book (Whores) on xiola before it came out, saying it was probably going to be crap.

Touché. But given who was writing it, I don't understand why anyone would have thought it was going to suck.

Keep in mind, prior to the release of Strays, there wasn't a giant tsunami of negativity surrounding anything Jane's was preparing to do. It was once all of the bullshit started happening between say '03-'05 that people had finally had enough.

Considering Sonny was thanked in the notes that's hard to believe.

A recommended buy. I think I already read that book twice, but must read it again sometime soon. So much interesting stuff in there.

The front cover of the book was changed (for the better) before the actual release of the book. It is thought all of 'xiola's' criticism over the initial cover (as some kind of market research) lead to the change.

I was the person that brought the original cover to everyone's attention on xiola. I also wrote to Brendan Mullen (and got a response) as well as Da Capo Press (the publisher) about the matter, stating that I and others like myself would not buy the book if it featured the "Strays" line-up of the band on the cover.

I bought an advance proof I found at Powell's a few years ago. It had the updated cover and a promo letter from the publisher's publicist
