Last time (I think) Jane's played Jools was when they were touring Strays in November '03. They did Just Because and one other, probably Stealing. They did JB acoustic / stripped back / unplugged style. I quite enjoyed it at the time. In hindsight, it might have been the start of the rot setting in since Perry's chosen to do something similar to so many of the classic numbers since then. Still, it was a decent performance. They also did JB the same way (acoustic, slow) when I saw them a few nights later in Nottingham.

I reckon that song would be loved more universally by us-types if it wasn't a single or it wasn't overplayed by the radio at the time, and probably today.

If you listen to it in the context of the album and ignore the video clip, you can hear that it's a really good song - made up of really great parts... like all other JA1.0 songs..

Agree 100 percent. Man, I wish there was a full '91 set of this quality.

It's amazing how much better the song sounds when Perry sings the melody as it was written.

Also... THAT ECHO is everything right about how he's supposed to sound.

Yer right!!!!…But it's not just the delay...he used that detune chorus thing that the studio guy set up for him when they were recording ritual ....A step up...a step down...It gave him that really wild vocal sound that has been missing for a long time....Now with ear monitors it probably wouldn't even throw him off pitch...Never could figure out why he felt the need to prove he could sing without that swirl?...maybe some songs to mix it up but?...it worked really well

Btw I don't think Ozzy Osbourne has sung without that weird chorus effect since Sabbath?...think even the later albums from sabbath used a pitch shift low in the mix or more like a chorus trip cuz it's so buried ?...kinda gives it that buzzzzzzzzzz....I'm all for effects I think a band like Jane's who built those songs in that psychedelic mindset should rock it as it was....Perry probably thought it was cheating?...but it's his sound so?...turn up that echo Perry!!!!…He's really good at playing with that...maybe he bored cuz they been rocking those songs so long?...but his use of effects was as important as his voice to me?
