Dave the speaker-storyteller...
Re: Dave the speaker-storyteller...
I always wondered why Dave never took his stories on the road like Henry Rollins.
Tell a few hilarious stories about the weird shit he's gotten into, take a few audience questions, do Jane Says on an acoustic, and charge everyone 50 bucks.
Rollins has made a killing on just telling stories about his life on the road, and then using his travels telling stories about his life on the road to tell more stories about life on the road.
It's a perpetual cycle that never ends.

Re: Dave the speaker-storyteller...
yeah, only problem is that not all of Rollins' stories are that amazing
Re: Dave the speaker-storyteller...
Bullshit they aren't. Dude is a fucking amazing storyteller.
I have seen him like 10 times, every single one fantastic.

I've seen him twice and both times it was pretty captivating...for the entire 2 hours. He's done a lot in his life. Just hearing about his trip to North Korea was worth the price of admission.Matz wrote:yeah, only problem is that not all of Rollins' stories are that amazing

I saw rollins talk about 2 years ago ... He sounded like a coorporate democrat .. The few black flag stories were fun but the guy seems really insecure and lonely at this point .. Not like the old days when his talking tours were more genuine

Yeah, weird that the anti-corporate punk rock icon is a liberal.
Who would ever expect that?

you're right, he's got the stories, I just find the delivery, especially when he wants to be funny, a bit cringeworthy, which ruins it a bit for meLokus wrote:I've seen him twice and both times it was pretty captivating...for the entire 2 hours. Yup. Rollins' spoken word sucks now. I've seen him speak MANY times and I've met him on a couple of occasions...so I'm not a hater...but his spoken word has run its course. He's just not very good anymore and yes, his attempts at humour are cringe worthy now.
