Is there any way back for Jane's?
I mean of course it's too late but what could they do to win our hearts back?
There were so many good things in the 90s but we adored them - what would they have to do?

Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
Great hypothetical question- I love stuff like this.
Personally, I think there's too much damage done, too many influences *cough* Etty *cough* that would negatively impact anything new. For myself, the only thing that would really get me stoked again is an emptying of the vaults: rare shows picked by the band, with liner notes by them... thoughts/feelings/recounts. Never-before-heard outtakes, rare photos, video... and of course the Three Days poem. I dunno. Even writing this right now, it almost seems like another part of my life- I think I get more enjoyment on ANR than anything that could be done by the original four.
ps: I was never remotely tempted by Cabinet of Curiosities

And ok the release of a great rare live show would be great. I really wouldn't care reading the Perry's liner notes about his thoughts/feelings/recounts of that period. He clearly doesn't remember any of it.
Other than that, just listen to their albums (yes, all 2 (ok maybe 3) of 'em) and enjoy em for what they were. It's over
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
No, it's over.
I think the only thing I would be interested in now are bluerays of live shows or 'official' live CD's from the Lates 80's early 90's.

The long answer is "no."
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
We are all very quick to agree
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
perry is a very different person now. dave just doesn't care about music enough to put 100 percent effort in to it. eric is never coming back. it's done.
even if you get rid of etty and pump perry full of heroin you can never return him to his young creative self.

Perk was really good about curating everything from the very beginning; you don't think he's sitting on anything worth releasing, even for all eight of us that would be interested? There are no never-before-heard outtakes.

No way. It's over.
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
There's a lot of great old shows on Youtube. The only thing I would be interested in seeing is more of the home made videos etc from the Soul Kiss days, and more Mount Baldy pro shot stuff. Other than that, they gather 1 hour prior to a tour to rehearse. They just don't care. Another Soulmate is all they can come up with. Sad really for such accomplished musicians. They absolutely could win hearts and minds back with a new Hard Charger kind of song. I mean what the fuck. These guys can't write one song a year! If Eric and Morgan played on the Ritual shows that would be awesome. How many lyrics will Perry mess up in Obvious and Of Course?
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
It's over rover. If Ritual shows make it to the UK, I'll go because i "have to" if you know what i mean... i'd almost feel duty bound. However, i have no interest in new music from them or anything like that. Maybe i echo what a couple of folk have already said... the odd live show release would be cool but there's no way there would be physical releases of that stuff as it wouldn't make anyone any money.

Someone would have to take McFly's Delorian back to 1997 and prevent Perry from meeting and hiring Etty as a dancer for the Relapse tour.
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
funny you should mention BTTF, I just saw today that a new one's coming out soon. Looked lame.
Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
No. Funny thing is, they had so many (too many) opportunities to do something really cool.

I take it back...if Perry were to die might be a slight bump

They could hire Chester from Linkin Park to take his place.
It worked for Stone Temple Pilots.

Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
I suppose the comparison for me is fnm, roughly the same number of albums, same length of noteriarity, etc....
And yet fnm appear to easily keep their cool and make good music.
It frustrates me so much as the impact they had on my formative years was massive, and now....
I'd always wanted a Jane's tattoo but could find a Jane's image that was right and opted for a porno one before they had really done anything, now in hindsight I kinda glad my body isn't permanently marked with something with a tainted legacy
I suppose that I need to forget about anything that they did after 1991 and enjoy all that came before?

Why even force yourself to enjoy that?erotic cheeses wrote:

I'm currently going through a situation with NIN where I can't even listen to their old stuff, because it just reminds me how bad the new stuff is. It's been tainted to a point where I just go listen to something else. Which is ultimately a good thing. Every band has their place in your life. But if you can find something great and new, by all means do so. There's so much great stuff out there that there really is no point in listening to Ritual for the 973rd time.

Re: Is there any way back for Jane's?
I love the optimism of the question, but it was Game Over a long time ago....let alone now. I think any value to Jane's Addiction in 2015 and beyond is down to what we attribute to it due to nostalgia, rather than present-day merit. The best we can realistically hope for is that they don't turn into a bigger joke than feared/expected.erotic cheeses wrote:I mean of course it's too late but what could they do to win our hearts back?
