NOT ART

Got it.

You are confused. Art can be genuine and bad. The funny thing is, you made my point even clearer.

Perry's art was bad, but he was putting his heart in to it. TPC and their ridiculous logo was made by a professional graphic designer. He made something that would sell. Something kids would buy on tshirts

You couldn't be more wrong about what you thought that band was up to. I can say this with 100% confidence.

The Panic Channel symbol is Dave's head. :drink:

TPC was the worst thing ever. They were embarrassingly poser-ish and the music was so generically bland. I was probably their target audience when they came out because I was a 14 year old girl, but even then I could see/hear how awful they were. I mean Steve Isaacs? Really? Not sure how anyone can defend TPC. They were made for Hot Topic.

Satellite Party wasn't good either, but those early snippets of songs like Milky Ave had potential and were way more interesting than anything TPC did.

But overall, Interwoven is right.

You guys are all high. Just like back in 2005.

No amount of revisionist history can change the fact that SP was a flop that no one showed up for, and TPC actually had fans (who took the time to get there early to draw on the sidewalks to welcome the band, none the less).

I think it's strange that a bunch of people who sit around talking about which live version of Pigs in Zen had the best rant by Perry and the best intro/outro, all inspected on shitty bootlegs recorded on tape recorders 30 years ago, can't possibly grasp the dedicated fandom that TPC had, and has.

TPC could get back together for a reunion show next week and people would be there. People ask Dave and Steve about it all the time.

Can you say the same about Satellite Party?

But the popularity of a band doesn't correlate to artistic merit. I mean that should be obvious. Tons of terrible bands could have a reunion tour and people would go. I'm sure Good Charlotte could have a packed theater tour. TPC had fans because they pandered to the lowest common denominator.

4 guys making music in their garage has more artistic merit that Perry Farrell making music on his laptop, getting a bunch of hired guns to put music to it, then completely scrapping the entire album to play hits from his other bands live.

Perry didn't even think his own music was good enough to play at his own shows.

LOL, a battle between who's better, Satellite Party or Panic Channel, complete with stats. What's next, a breakdown of what was the best lineup of Faster Pussycat?

August 15, 2006 (ONe) Capitol Records U.S. album-chart position 110 U.S. sales 10,000
May 29, 2007 Ultra Payloaded Columbia Records U.S. album-chart position 91 U.S. sales 8,000
This really isn't an argument about one being a success is it? As arguments go, citing those, both woeful, album sales figures just seems to amplify my original point re. where everyone was at when the NME show came up - both Perry and the others were coming off failed projects. Arguing that one was slightly more failed than the other hardly seems to change anything there?

Perry Farrell: singer for Jane's Addiction and Porno For Pyros, founder of Lollapalooza, a 90s icon whose name is known 'round the world...

Sticks his name on a CD, banking solely on name recognition for it to sell, and it sells less copies than a CD by 2 of his lesser-known musician bandmates working with a studio musician and an MTV VJ.

Did both sales figures suck? Yep.

But one was far more of a failure than the other. By leaps and bounds. Imagine if Johnny Depp's name was slapped enormous on a movie poster, trying to sell the movie based on his name alone, and they only sold 27 tickets.

Same thing. When you try to sell something based on someone's previous fame, and it crashes and burns, it stings just a little more than if you had just never emphasized the famous person to begin with.
