STP is better than Jane's.

The Beatles are more legendary than STP

Beatles > STP > Jane's

Had to chime in.

I think it was the Wiltern shows in 01. I remember being weirded out hearing Dave, Steve, and Chris do "In the Flesh". The sound was fine, but it just stuck out as a weird cover.

Perry not singing it bothered me. It sounded like something the band worked up at soundcheck-- as a way to entertain themselves.

It hard to express but thats the moment I knew the band was something else. EVERYTHING before that even Gobalee(sp?) was slightly weird and interesting...but by 01 is was off.

Maybe the REV album too. Perry rehashing Whole Lotta' Love as a shit drum and bass cover was just....Maybe that was it. He was ringing the very last obscure bit of Jane's Addiction out and it was just horrible. I hated it and knew it was going to be bumpy moving forward.

Perry was saying weird shit about making club music before Jane's 1.0 had even played their last shows. I remember getting a weird vibe from that all the way back then. Signs of his decline began early. Luckily he had enough magic left to sustain him for a number of years after Jane's.

I spoke to Perry after the Wolves Civic Hall show in November 2003. I was very drunk and told him to not stop what he was doing (As in making music, nothing sexual) Which I'm glad in a way because Janes 1.0 came back, albeit very briefly. But even back then it was obvious he was obsessed with the attention. That gig had the worst set list ever too.

Every now and then on the board, I hear that a handful of shows from the tail end of 2003 were really really good and had the true Jane's spirit. Can you provide any more description? Is there any audio or video? I'm curious because its such a flash in the pan and we don't seem to have much record of it.
