Perry's clothing has completely normalized since 09. Thank God he no longer wears those liberace clothes.

Yes. I believe Perry even tried to get Eric on board with a stylist for the tour and Eric was having none of it.Six7Six7 wrote:Didn't Eric say, in Sonny's interview, that the sequins and the cape was basically Perry's "fuck you" to Eric after Eric asked him to tone down the camp and the karaoke Jane Says?

Nothing’s Shocking is one of those once heard, never forgotten albums that bands don’t even pretend to make anymore; easily on par with other titanic releases that came out of L.A. in the ’80s and early ’90s: Appetite For Destruction, Straight Outta Compton, Paul’s Boutique, and The Chronic. And yet, the Jane’s oeuvre and myth doesn’t feel aged, or classic. If anything, it’s still a live wire; dangerous and dark in spite of the passage of time. “My sex and my drugs and my rock n’ roll,” Perry Farrell sang back in 1990 on the Ritual De Lo Habitual album, “are the only things that keeps me here.” Two decades later there’s not one note of corniness or kitsch to Jane’s. While the band never said, “Hey kids, drugs are cool,” they made no apology for exulting in substances stronger than pot. Sex, as Jane’s portrayed it, was bold as well; a ritual, with candles lit, altars built, spirits stirred. It’s part of what bonded them to a devoted fan base and let’s face it, what kept them interesting.
Well, I guess he got some of it right.....
* live wire (who knows what product Perry will be shilling on any given night!!!)
* dangerous (in destroying their legacy going forward)
* and dark (it has been hard for the long time fans, that is true.....)
.....but I don't think in the context he was intending.......

Are there like qualifications necessary for music industry journalists? Or is it just any dude off the street can be a writer?

Re: Ritual Performance
I can't believe you guys are complaining about a $75 ticket. That's the going rate for a band like Jane's Addiction. The place will be full and They are actually a GREAT cover band! Ritual plus 3 others. Sure it's a short set but I bet there's no complaints. Only from people here of course. You can spend $75 easy for a shitty dinner for two in most cities.

Jane's is like that restaurant that used to be amazing...but one of the head chefs left and now the food kind of sucks...with a VERY limited menu.
Re: Ritual Performance
I disagree. Still a damn good show most nights. These are classic songs man. Just go. Plenty of worse ways to spend $150.Tyler Durden wrote:$75+$75 = shitty concert for twobman wrote:I can't believe you guys are complaining about a $75 ticket. I'm always looking to spend $75 for a shitty dinner for two.
I am sure you are right, it will be full, for the novelty factor alone.
Do you really think it will be the whole album?
Classic Girl?
Of Course?
Actually I bet they could start at $100-$125 and it would be full here......

Re: Ritual Performance
Maybe saying "shitty" concert is taking it too far. But still...I've seen Chaney's Addiction a few times and I enjoyed myself. But Perry can't sing anymore and the "danger" of the band's youth is long gone. I'd rather hold on to the memories of the first incarnation than go watch them play 80% of Ritual along with "Superhero" and "Another Soulmate".bman wrote:I disagree. Re: Ritual Performance
It'll be Ritual Plus Ocean, Just BC, and Jane Says probably! Ritual plus Whores, Ted, and Ocean would be awesome and well worth $75.

Unless it's new material with Eric Avery as cowriter and bassist, I'm not interested. You can only trot out the old material so much before it becomes stale.bman wrote:It'll be Ritual Plus Ocean, Just BC, and Jane Says probably! Re: Ritual Performance
bman is right, the price they're asking seems to be the going rate.
i saw the JAMC do Psychocandy(30th anniversary) and paid $80 w/svc charges. That album is less than 45 minutes! They ended up doing a few more songs to make for that, but still, a fairly short show.

Pretty much any time before 2010, this would have generated huge buzz. I have seen this talked about on exactly ZERO music sites. An unfortunate example that it is entirely possible to smear diarrhea all over your name and by extension your legacy.

Re: Ritual Performance
Exactly. We've beat this horse to death...but 2008-2009 saw Jane's with a perfect window of opportunity to cover up some of their past missteps (Strays, Satellite Party/Panic Channel era). Eric was back, they were playing clubs, resurrecting their old street/indie image, had a nice website, and Trent was giving them huge clout again in the industry. Then...*poof*, GONE!Noonesshocking wrote:Pretty much any time before 2010, this would have generated huge buzz. I have seen this talked about on exactly ZERO music sites. Re: Ritual Performance
Standing tickets for downstairs will actually be $90, not $75. I wouldn't say that's the going rate—it's certainly a step up from most shows 'round here. Garbage is playing the same venue a few weeks before and that's $49. As was Faith No More (also at Warfield). And that's before we get to any chat about how long they play.bman wrote:I can't believe you guys are complaining about a $75 ticket. That's the going rate for a band like Jane's Addiction. I'll pay it, and it's not a complaint, but that doesn't mean I won't comment on it when they take the piss. Keep the faith, bman. Keep the faith...

It's generous of you not to post the Mexico City gig and go for some of the shorter sets. 50 songs....that's approximately what you'd get from Jane's Addiction in four concerts.nausearockpig wrote:hahahahhah oh Jane's Addiction, how far you have to go...

Yeah I was going to post that Mexico City show but by the time I'd remembered it, I'd hit Submit and couldn't be bothered editing it to prove a point that there's no point re-proving......phenobarb_bambalam wrote:It's generous of you not to post the Mexico City gig and go for some of the shorter sets. 50 songs....that's approximately what you'd get from Jane's Addiction in four concerts.nausearockpig wrote:hahahahhah oh Jane's Addiction, how far you have to go...
