Isn't that one supposed to sound like toilet also? Not suggesting you shouldn't, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that the quality was....lacking.

Yeah, been reading about it, and supposedly a crappy mastering.

Well, Apparently the sound quality of the pressing is terrible, so it won't matter that much

Oh so Jack White bought that first Elvis recording ... It sold for +- 300.000 dollars on ebay a few months ago

Being rich and a record collector would be great. You could outbid anybody on any rare record being offered on ebay

What's a Jordanaire?

If you want that RSD release Drifter, I suggest you get up really early. RSD is overhyped, and everybody will be looking for that record just to be able to sell it for 250 dollars on ebay

you should go and ask the TV On The Radio guy - Dave Sitek, whether he called EA before and during his Jane's tenure for TGEA asking for tips or old bits of basslines...... or ask him if he ever felt like he was "standing in the shadow... playing"....

I have one and it does not sound bad at all.

Not willing to sell as this is #1 in my collection.

I'm pissed off. I found a sealed first issue of Ritual on vinyl at a record swap meet today, brought it home and opened it up, put it on the turntable and right at the "Erotic Jesus" part in Three Days, it skips back about 3 grooves. I cleaned it and it still skips. I was really hoping to replace my original played-to-death vinyl and initially, this copy sounded great, dead quiet. $40 (which I thought was a good price) down the crapper.

I know nothing about records but can you manually 'manipulate' the record, like with a knife to make the groove smoother or something, to make it not skip?

I dug out this giant magnifying glass I have in my modeling toolbox in the garage and looked at the area where it skipped and there's this really tiny little dimple like a moon crater or road pothole that's about the width of three grooves wide. I'm sure anything I'd try to do to fix it would only make it worse. Shit like this reminds me why I stopped buying vinyl at the end of the 80's for just about all my music purchases.

I'm sure I'm breaking some secret audiophile mastubatory rule thing but the crackling annoys me. It gets in the way of the music... I have a 12" of The Cure's High - Higher Mix single cos the b-side is Open - Fix Mix and the thing that annoyed was that whenever I chose to listen to Open - Fix Mix either on the record itself or a cassette transfer was the ever-present crackle.... Finding the CD single version of this release made me super happy.. Finally I could hear it as intended. Crackle-less....

The CD does not look as cool as the 12" though:

That would be a pressing mistake.

Maybe you can send it back to the pressing plant :)

For skips, caused by a scratch, you can try 'evening' the groove with a tooth pick. Don't try it with a sharp object like a knife, you'll only ruin your record more
