"Definitive" Version of Whores?
This is arguably one of Jane's signature songs, yet jane's 1.0 never properly recorded it. It's almost like a Jazz standard in that there are strong melodic themes, but there is a lot of room for interpretation. For example, sometimes bass intro is drawn out, with Stephen adding some tribal drum embellishments in anticipation of everyone kicking in. Sometimes, it's simply a few bars of the bassline without any drums (ala the reznor version). One time, they even cut the ENTIRE bass intro out (echoplex 2009). Dave has done tons of different solos over the years too. Is there a consensus on the definitive version? Is it XXX? I think this one may be it in my mind:

It's got the long build up, and Dave's first solo became integral to live versions of the song in my opinion.
I thought it would be cool to talk about the best part of Jane's again: the music.
Edit: why am I having so much trouble embedding?

There's no video for this song, but I think this is the definitive Whores. I've yet to hear a better studio version.

Good lord that still gives me goosebumps. In their prime, I'd still take them over any other band.Noonesshocking wrote:This is arguably one of Jane's signature songs, yet jane's 1.0 never properly recorded it. That video makes you realize why after falling so far they still have fans.

Definitive version of whores:
Re: "Definitive" Version of Whores?
That 8-5-91 show is great. Perry is scary insane. And yes, the definitive version of Whore is the live version played in 1.0. They played it like that again at Gathering of The vibes a few years ago.
