Perry's laptop song from the reznor sessions
Anyone else think the song Perry initially brought to the sessions was some iteration of underground? Perry had played it at coachella the year before. Could've sounded awful before the band put their spin on it. Let's blindly speculate and bring this forum to life!
Re: Perry's laptop song from the reznor sessions
I remember Eric saying something about there being 2 songs, one of which was kind of "show tune-y"
And that is the one that Eric wanted to work on just because he thought it was weird.

Yup best guess is that Underground is a PF composition.... at least in this version... http://we.tl/Pb4g8eRsv8

Yeah, I had a suspicion it was that version Underground.. which the band dodged at the time because Avery referred to it as "just awful" (which is ironic, considering it's the only half decent song on TGEA imo) I think Perry probably pushed for it again during the Sitek sessions and they worked it into what it is today.
The show tune Avery referred to is "Embrace the Darkness" and the other (un-named) instrumental track that the band wrote and Perry attempted vocals at. (didn't Avery refer to as "douche chill .. something about Israel lyrics etc") The bass-line then ended up being the first track on Avery's 2nd solo album.. along with Stephen's pitched up drums.
Someone tweet Dave and ask him if we'll ever get to hear Embrace the Darkness.. or at least describe it to us?? lol. That' ll put him in a good mood I'm sure.

I don't know why you would want to hear it.
Sure, EA worked on it.
But I guarantee Perry still managed to totally ruin it with his lyrics and vocals.

Wow, this says a lot about Jane's "creativity", because it's exactly clear what the composition process was like:nausearockpig wrote:Yup best guess is that Underground is a PF composition.... at least in this version... http://we.tl/Pb4g8eRsv8

Step 1: Perry makes a song in 2009, records it at home and then uses that recording for his live shows (not an album).
Step 2: Perry makes "the guys" listen to that song, saying "We should play stuff that's more like this." Avery refuses.
Step 3: Perry pushes the song again after Eric's departure, and this guy "the guys" say "meh, why not. Let's work on this."
Step 4: Dave figures out the "chords" for the song and he just follows the same tempo. He literally just plays on top of that base.
Step 5: Dave goes "hey, what if we just play this but sort of sped-up? And with Perk playing a somewhat uncommon pattern?"
Step 6: They do just that. Then the on-call bassist plays the roots of each chord. They record it.
Step 7: They release it as a fucking single.
Man, these really are a bunch of lazy cunts.

Seeing Jane's Addiction run out of their creative ability like this is the most shocking example of an artist losing it that I'm aware of...
It really is shocking when you compare them to the RHCP. How the paths of these two bands converged and how it turned out finally... JA devolving into this complete and utter lack of creative abilities and fading into obscurities, while the RHCP enjoying their triumphant commercial success with Californication, By the Way and Arcadium... An it was the Peppers who at one point were watching the majestic force of Jane's live in concert and asking theirselves "Why do we even bother with this shit"...
Unbelievable...

Don't forget that Avery, in his Sonny interview, said that he tried to get everyone to jam so they could pull material from that, but Perry shot the idea down because he couldn't make it, thus he wouldn't let the other 3 guys be together in a room without him.Larry B. wrote:Wow, this says a lot about Jane's "creativity", because it's exactly clear what the composition process was like:nausearockpig wrote:Yup best guess is that Underground is a PF composition.... at least in this version... http://we.tl/Pb4g8eRsv8

So even if they wanted to get together and do something, Perry probably won't give them the keys to the rehearsal space because he's too busy vacationing.
It also kind of explains why the band doesn't rehearse except for an hour in the jam room at the show. Because Perry is too busy, so he won't let anyone else do anything either.

I think it's kinda cool that JA made Underground from that laptop basis. I mean, they transformed a meh bling blong song into a pretty good rock tune, that almost gives me hope ...

Last time Perry let the other three (as was then: Dave, Perk and Chaney) go off and jam some ideas on their own, they sacked him, got a failed singer / VJ in to do the vocals and formed a new band...Six7Six7 wrote:Don't forget that Avery, in his Sonny interview, said that he tried to get everyone to jam so they could pull material from that, but Perry shot the idea down because he couldn't make it, thus he wouldn't let the other 3 guys be together in a room without him.Larry B. wrote:Wow, this says a lot about Jane's "creativity", because it's exactly clear what the composition process was like:nausearockpig wrote:Yup best guess is that Underground is a PF composition.... at least in this version... http://we.tl/Pb4g8eRsv8

TPC produced as many good songs as TGEA did. If not more.

Oh, this will get ugly.
Re: Perry's laptop song from the reznor sessions
Perry was paranoid about the band ditching him again if they started jamming without him...again.

Probably some truth in this statement...hokahey wrote:Perry was paranoid about the band ditching him again if they started jamming without him...again.
